The Steelmen forged another victory as they came from behind to beat Hallam FC
After Tuesday’s frustrations, there was a very big focus to get 3 points again as we pushed towards the top of the league.
Pre-match, there was a guest appearance from former Boro player Craig Hignett, as he gave the fans a nice chat about his playing career and past.
The match got underway at 3, with the main talking point of the opening few minutes being the wind, with a strong breeze causing multiple long kicks from Hallam’s goalkeeper to drift out of play, much to the enjoyment of the home crowd.
In the 20th minute though, Hallam nabbed a goal as a corner was whipped in, and stabbed home amidst the chaos in the box. There were fears at this point of a rout, with the visitors seeming to have found their rhythm before the hosts.
However, Adam Boyes, this level’s top scorer across the nation, was not going to let that happen, as within 6 minutes of the restart he had the ball in the back of Hallam’s net…twice.
The first coming from some brilliant work by Curtis Round, as the winger cut inside and fed a clean pass between the defensive line and Boyes was able to roll it into the net.
The second goal was just as good, as the game’s man of the match Owen Burns lifted a deft ball over the top of the defence to the feet of Boyes, and he once again did great to slot it cleanly into the goal.
From 1-0 down in the 22nd minute, we now led 2-1 in the 26th.
The rest of the first half was slightly duller, as both teams started to apply more pressure preventing many chances from forming.
In the 40th minute though, we nabbed a third, as Louis Johnson got the ball on the edge of the box and struck it cleanly into the bottom corner.
This meant that at half time, we led 3-1, to the joy of the home support, and dismay of the travelling.

The second half, in all honesty, was a complete opposite of the chaotic first half.
Redcar created a lot of chances that just could not be converted, the highlight of these being a wide free kick that, after a couple headers from Boyes and Round, ended up in the goalkeepers hands.
Louis Johnson also had another chance to get a goal, as he rounded the Hallam goalkeeper, but with space shrinking he lifted a ball to Boyes whose header ended up on the roof of the net.
However, with the game starting to wrap up, and everyone making their way towards the gates, Louis Johnson was slipped through
One on one, he slammed the ball between the keeper and his near post to give Redcar a 4-1 lead, and also meaning him and Adam Boyes both ended the game with a brace.
A solid victory to end the week, and we now prepare for Wednesday night, where we host Pontefract Collieries.
Match preview will be out tomorrow.
But with the Steelmen pushing towards the top of the league, with games in hand that can propel us there, we need any and all support we can get, so we hope to see you on Wednesday evening for a 7:45pm kick off!
