17 goals in 3 games has us looking stronger than usual, as we got a 3-0 win away to Grimsby Borough in some boggy conditions
We are starting to set up a routine here, with a midweek game sorted, and another team crossed off the list.
A solid 3-0 win against Grimsby Borough means we still hold our 10-point gap over second-placed Emley, with 2 games in hand on them as well.
A tiringly long trek to Humberside saw us set up for the 7:45 pm kick off, and we started withsome early chances.
Our first solid chance arrived in the 10th minute, when Oscar Fletcher received a pass from JJ Bartliff, but his strike glided across the pitch and pinged off the post, eventually being cleared.
Grimsby started the game with a high tempo and high press, meaning we were struggling to really get forward. A throw-in was forced back to Rio May, who laid a pass off to Danny Rowe, who did well under pressure to clear.
Back-to-back corners came and went for the hosts, with Mazfari punching the first one out of the box before it was deflected out for the second corner that went out the other side.
We took the lead in the 17th minute, though, as a stellar pass from Oscar found Louis, and he did great as we got into the box and placed a shot into the net.
Moments after the restart, our goalscorer was hauled down, though the fouling Grimsby player escaped without a booking.
Three minutes on from that, though, and we did receive a booking, as a long ball saw Bosh collide with Grimsby’s goalkeeper, though there was very little in it. Their #1 was in a heap on the floor, though, and it meant Adam received a yellow
We created some more great chances as the half progressed, with Bosh and Louis both doing decently, though neither could bag our second.
Dane Burlace had our next solid chance as he pounced on a loose ball and ran down the right, but as he entered the box, he was barged off the ball, and it went out for a Steelmen corner.
A header from Bosh went over the top, and Louis dragged a shot wide, with both providing the other with the pass.
Those actions were our last of the half, and it meant we entered the break just one goal to the good
The second half kicked off with some defensive quality, as Mazfari pulled off a brilliant double stop as he got a hand to a close-range shot before sticking a foot out and deflecting away a quickfire follow-up.
We nearly bagged a second a few minutes later, as a great passing move ended with Louis laying it off to Bosh, but his attempt went over.
But we were able to bag our second soon after, with John Howard being hauled down in the box, and Louis Johnson dispatched the spot kick into the bottom right.
Owen Burns and Brad Fewster came on for Dane and JJ, and we had some more chances with Brad shooting over from a wide angle.
Brad did get a hand in our third goal, though, as he received the ball and slipped a pass into the box that Bosh struck into the far corner
3-0 up, but we wanted more, with Louis trying to get a third hat-trick in a row as he had a shot through a crowd saved by the Grimsby goalie
Danny Rowe laid a pass to Bosh, who saw his shot saved soon after, and Mark Anderson, who had just come on for John Howard, cannoned a shot from outside the box off the crossbar
At the other end, Danni Lay put in a solid block that allowed us to counter, and Mazfari tipped over a shot that ultimately was the last real bit of action
He kept a clean sheet, and we came away with those vital three points!
Up next is a home fixture against Brighouse Town, and we hope to see you at the Hollou!
And as usual, take care, and up the Steelmen.
