Match Report: Garforth Town AFC 0-5 Redcar Athletic

Another victory for the Steelmen, I'm starting to feel like a broken record. 5 goals against Garforth sees us get even closer to the top of the table.

If the match against Pontefract was a good team performance, then this was unbelievable.

A five-star performance saw the Steelmen comfortably beat Garforth as we now sit just 2 points behind league leaders Bradford Park Avenue.

After the torrid weather that hit on Friday, there were some fears of postponement, but the game went ahead without a hitch, despite some blips of rainfall before kick off

The match started with both sides getting some chances, the hosts putting a free kick wide of the goal before a corner by Round was nodded wide by Boyes

However, it was corner taker Curtis Round who opened the scoring in the 6th minute, as he got the ball on the edge of the box and hammered it into the top right corner

After the goal, Redcar took control of the game, with many players finding themselves able to push forward, with Burlace, Bartliff, Round, Fletcher and Fewster all having dribbles down either wing or through the middle.

In the 19th minute, Oscar Fletcher was slipped through the middle and was making his way towards goal, when there was an audible clack of the boots before he went down in the box.

However, the linesman and referee gave nothing, much to the frustrations of the player, bench and fans, annoyances that resulted in a booking for both one of Redcar’s players and a Redcar coach.

Moments later, those frustrations were forgotten though, as Fewster was on the end of a lovely move consisting of Boyes, Fletcher, Round and Fewster himself, with Bradley able to sweep the ball into the net to make it 2-0 Redcar.

4 minutes on and it was 3-0, as a Curtis Round corner was floated in and Danni Lay was in the right spot to head it into the goal.

There was one last bit of notable action this half, as a Garforth attack saw Mazfari seemingly collect the ball. But it then seemed to slip through him and over the line.

The Garforth players did not celebrate, whilst the home fans did, and the referee waved play on, with the whistle for the interval rapidly following.

The second half began with some questions about what could possibly happen in the next 45, and for the next 30 minutes the answer was not a lot.

The match became congested in the middle third of the pitch, with neither team really breaking forward and nabbing a goal.

Round though, was in fantastic form that day, as he was frequently in a great position to aid a Redcar attack, and those positions ultimately paid off as in the 79th minute substitute Bryan Taylor whipped in a great cross to Boyes, who turned and shot at goal

Said shot was parried out, but only to an onrushing Round who blasted the ball into the net past a flailing keeper to make it 4-0.

Kiren Uppal came on in the 84th, and from then it was him and Fewster who frequently tried to score Redcar’s 5th. Uppal found himself in some great spots, with Garforth playing a very high line, but he, along with Fewster, ended up being flagged offside, due to said high line.

Fewster was finally able to get his second, and Redcar’s fifth though, in the final seconds of the game, as he beat the high line, and through alone, one on one, he took his time and slipped the ball into the net.

Another 5 goals for Redcar, and more importantly, another 3 points!

Up next, we have another away game as we face Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday night!

Match preview will be out tomorrow, hope to see you in just a couple of days time!
