Fresh off the back of a weekend at Derby County’s Moor Farm training facility, the Steelmen are ready to break yet more ground, as they welcome local giants Hartlepool United to the Redcar seafront.

Pools visit this evening is expected to draw a large crowd, as the former football league side travel exceptionally well, and present an ideal fixture for both groundhoppers and potential new fans of the club.

Hartlepool are currently members of the Vanarama National League, which arguably makes them the toughest opponent ever to face off with the Steelmen.

Their quality and professionalism will provide more than a stern test, which boss Gary Forster seems to be revelling in.

“First, I would like to thank Hartlepool for visiting us.

“These games mean a lot to a club like ourselves, and the benefits are endless.

“We hope to provide you with everything you require from a pre-season friendly, in what we hope is a great season for yourselves.”

Here’s everything you need to know about our final pre-season encounter.

WHO ARE YA?

Hartlepool United are a side that need no introduction.

Formed in 1908, the club have played at Victoria Park since their inception, currently known as the ‘Suit Direct Arena’ for sponsorship reasons.

The club are fondly known as Pools, or the Monkey Hangers, after a well-known story about the town from many years ago.

Their last campaign ended in a dissapointing relegation out of the EFL, with the Vanarama National League once again their home, for at least a year.

Pools’ weekend consisted of a goalless draw with Blyth Spartans, after their pre-season campaign began with a victory over a young Middlesbrough XI.

TEAM NEWS

After the Steelmen’s weekend camp in Derby, Gary Forster has almost a clean bill of health for tonight’s prestigious encounter.

Fans will get their first opportunity to watch some of Redcar’s new additions, from midfielder Dom Mowen, to forward Jamie Owens.

As for fitness, Joe Ferguson is the only player yet to grace the field, besides Donny Holdsworth, whose injury necessitates a long-term absence.

Isaac Walker and Anthony Bell did not travel to Moor Farm with the squad due to work commitments, but should be available this evening.

FAMILIAR FACES

Tonight will be a special occasion for Redcar’s assistant manager, Mark Robinson, who made over 100 appearances for Pools during his playing career.

The first team coach also has a son on the roster at Hartlepool, and may find himself on opposite sides of the field with the talented youngster this evening.

The Steelmen also boast a number of ex-Hartlepool players, with Josh Rowbotham and Oscar Fletcher to name just a few.
