Two years and one day after joining the club, Lee Bullock heads back to Whitby Town to take on a joint-managerial role

Our coaching team of four now becomes three, as Lee Bullock has officially departed the club to take on a joint-managerial role at Whitby Town.

Having joined the Steelmen from the Seasiders just over 2 years ago to this day, Lee now returns to the NPL side as he looks to help steer the club away from the relegation zone.

Part of our promotion-winning side, Lee was a valued member of the staff, with Carl Jarrett, Dave McTiernan, and Paul Franklin all offering a stream of kind words about him.

“Since Bully joined the club, he’s been an unbelievable lad and coach. It’s really sad to see him move on from his role at Redcar, but I totally understand his reasons. I wish him all the best going forward with Whitby,” were the words of our manager, Carl Jarrett.

Dave had a lot to say about Lee as well, stating that “From my point of view as assistant manager, I just want to say a big thank you to Lee Bullock as he moves on to a new role with Whitby Town.

Lee is first and foremost a very good friend. He has been brilliant for us at Redcar Athletic, and his knowledge and experience of the game have played a huge part in what we’ve achieved together so far.

He’s always been someone you can rely on, and his input on the training ground and on matchdays has been massively important in the group.

Lee is a calm character, and that really showed in the way he worked with the players and staff. Everyone at the club is grateful for the time and effort he’s given us, and while he will be missed, we all wish him nothing but the very best.”

Paul Franklin also had nothing but kind words to say, mentioning how “Working with Bully over the last 2 seasons has been an absolute pleasure. I’ve personally learned a lot from his coaching sessions and his experience in the game. His impact around the club won’t be forgotten, from last year’s title win to our current position in the league. I will miss our chats around post-match food options, and I wish him all the best at Whitby.”

Since joining us in February 2024, he has helped this side rise up the leagues, gaining promotion from the Northern League last season, and he’s been an integral part of the club’s top spot position this season, too.

His first match as coach at the club saw us trounce West Allotment Celtic 8-0, with the Steelmen going unbeaten in the league for the remainder of the season, with our only defeat in that time coming against Scarborough Athletic in the County Cup.

He then, along with the rest of the coaches, helped us rise up the NPL East, with the most memorable result of that time being the 10-1 thrashing of Silsden.

But all in all, as a club, we are heavily grateful for everything Lee has given and done, and we do wish him the very best for whatever the future holds.
