"Absolutely outstanding from everyone."
Redcar Athletic Ladies coach Mathew Gibson proved delighted by his side’s 2-1 win over Poppleton, a successful end to ‘Ladies Day’ in front of a bumper crowd at Green Lane.
Threatened by a ‘dubious’ penalty decision, goals from Ellie Booth and Holly Lemanczyk settled the affair in favour of the Steelwomen, a welcome return to winning ways on an afternoon enjoyed across the women’s section.
Pleased to mark ‘Ladies Day’ with a richly deserved three points, coach Mathew Gibson admitted he was delighted with the performance, praising each and every player who pulled on the red and navy.
“Words can’t describe how proud I am of every single one of them today.” He said. “It was absolutely outstanding from everyone.”
“First half we were solid, passing amongst us, being patient, controlling the game, and working for each other. Absolutely brilliant.
“Second half was the same, we had tired legs towards the end, but that’s expected.
“We managed to dig in deep and get the job done.
“I think we got unlucky with the penalty decision, which was very dubious. Apart from that, we handled their pressure well, and remained calm when needed.
“An exemplary performance from an exemplary team!”
