The skipper asks supporters to get behind the Steelmen on Saturday.

Redcar Athletic Club Captain Kevin Burgess urges support for the Steelmen this weekend, as Boro Rangers visit Green Lane in a fight for top spot.

The two Teesside rivals go into Saturday separated by just two points, the victor guaranteed to lead the league at the close of play.

Only to be the fourth competitive meeting between the two clubs – both of relative infancy – Saturday’s bout is by far the most important.

Redcar Athletic and Boro Rangers have each hit the ground running in some style this season, dominating the Northern League during its opening quarter.

The advantage lies with Boro by virtue of an extra point, but victory for Kevin Burgess and the Steelmen would still see a move to the top step come the referee’s final whistle.

With such at stake, the Club Captain told Ash Stone it was a match the team would approach no differently, repeating Carl Jarrett’s claim that the side is always set up to WIN.

“We approach and prepare for the Boro Rangers game just like any other.” He said. “We want to win.”

“We all know it’s the biggest game of the season so far, with the prize to be leauge leaders come 4:45pm what ourselves and Boro will both be looking to achieve.

“It should be a great game to play in, and to watch for the fans, with both clubs having a great start to the season.”

Tasked with marshalling the backline against the division’s most potent attack, Kevin had high praise for Boro’s offensive prowess.

The central-defender admitted he and his teammates would have to be at their very best to stop the likes of Stuart Rose, Danny Lofts and Callum Hickman, even more so to come away with the three points.

He added: “As defenders, each team presents different attacking threats, none more so than Boro Rangers. Credit where credit is due.”

“We will have to be at our best to get the win come game day.”

Asked how Redcar can gain the edge, Kevin Burgess praised support from the terraces over the course of the campaign, pleading with fans to pack out Green Lane, and get behind the team.

“The support has been massive.” The captain said.

“All I ask from the fans is to back this management team, and this group of players.

“It means a lot, gives everyone that extra boost, and shows we are all together as one club. Not just for this game, and past games, but in every single game right the way through to the end of the season.

“Yeah, there are going to be ups and downs, but the most important thing is we all stick together. Positivity will always win the day!”
