Over 300 spectators watched our third annual Dave Peacock Memorial Cup.
Redcar Athletic’s Junior Coaches came out on top in our annual Dave Peacock Memorial Cup, which raised almost £2000 towards a new bladder scanner at James Cook University Hospital.
WHAT IS THE DAVE PEACOCK MEMORIAL CUP?

Every year, our Junior Coaches and Senior Reserves go head-to-head in the Dave Peacock Memorial Cup, raising money in honour of the late Dave Peacock.
The funds are used by the Peacock family to continue Dave’s work to pay for a new bladder scanner at James Cook University Hosptial, where he was undergoing cancer treatment.
Over 300 spectators packed the terraces at the B&D Interiors Stadium to watch our Junior Coaches come from behind to defend their title.
The Reserves started the stronger and took a two goal lead into the break – Kieron Iceton and Liam Khurana – despite seeing an early effort chalked off for offside.
Jacob Lyth added a third when play resumed, only for Connor Smith to rally a response from our Junior Coaches.
The former First Team star netted four in an emphatic five goal surge – as a lunge in the box allowed Chrissy Errington to convert from the spot.
Graeme Huntley buried a penalty for the Reserves in the dying embers, but it wasn’t enough to deny our Junior Coaches a second successive title on an afternoon of great importance.

Almost £2000 was raised towards a new bladder scanner at James Cook University Hospital, with Junior Section Secretary Steve Simpkin admitting he was pleased to honour Dave’s legacy in such a way.
“I’m really pleased that today has gone so well.” He said.
“When we started these games three years ago it was as part of a club-wide desire to support the familiy’s wishes and complete Dave Senior’s fundraising that he had started whilst undergoing his own treatment.
“That first year was such a success that we wanted to make it an annual event to keep the memory and legacy of such an amazing person alive, and to also help the family continue raising money in his name.

“It’s always a bittersweet day for those of us who knew Dave well and still miss him but we try to make it a day of celebration and fun for everyone involved and I’m delighted that we had over 300 people in attendance enjoying a great game.
“Most importantly, we will be adding close to £2,000 to the families fundraising pot that will go towards helping people undergoing cancer treatment at JCUH.
“We will do it all again next year and I’m sure it will once again be a great event.”
