The Redcar boss offered his take on a slender victory over the Black and Ambers.

Redcar Athletic boss Carl Jarrett returned to the helm with a win, praising his players for digging in, and seeing an important result against Crook Town over the line.

The Black and Ambers gave Redcar their closest run yet, goals from Adam Boyes and Jack Blackford making the difference come the final whistle.

A lightning quick start, Carl Jarrett admitted he was thrilled to see Adam Boyes turn home the opener inside ten minutes, somewhat concerned over what he deemed to be ‘putting on the handbrake.’

Jack Blackford doubled Redcar’s tally in a much better second period, Charlie Bunton’s late consolation forcing Redcar to work for the three points.

Redcar Athletic 2-1 Crook Town

Read our report as the Steelmen see off the challenge of Crook Town.

As pleased to see off the Black and Ambers by a single-goal margin as he was four, Carl Jarrett said: “It was a scrappy game, I must admit.”

“I thought we started really well. In the first ten-fifteen minutes I thought we were excellent. We got our goal, but then I thought we just put the handbrake on.

“We let them into the game all little bit more. It was just scrappy from about fifteen minutes until halfway.

“We had a few harsh words at halftime, and we’ve just come out flying I think. We’ve done really well in good areas, put the ball in the box, and got our goal.

“I think we just fell asleep, and we gave away a goal. It always sets them alive, doesn’t it, it gives the opposition something to hold on to.

“Fair play to Crook, they had a game plan and they’ve worked at it, and kept at it too.

“Their fullbacks took 27 throw-ins. We’ve had Joe (Thomson), we know he can throw a ball from the halfway line into the box. We knew what they were setting up like.

“Fair play to everyone today, it’s one of them where they’ve all stuck in right to the very end. We’re not going to just batter teams 4-0 every week.

“I’ve just said to the lads, everyone remembers the results, and the result is a win. It’s as simple as that.

“I’m very happy for the lads to get that win today. They’ve all worked hard, and they deserve it.”
