The boss offered his thoughts on our Isuzu FA Vase Second Round triumph.
Carl Jarrett praised a battling performance against Whickham in the Isuzu FA Vase as Adam Boyes’ poacher’s finish earned a spot in the Third Round Proper.
The Steelmen staved off heavy pressure from the Lang Jacks in the dying embers, a miraculous save from Josh Mazfari and a dash of good fortune seeing them to the end unscathed.
A hard-fought contest from start to finish, there was much for Carl Jarrett to comment on in his latest post-match presser.
The boss lauded the efforts of his squad given their threadbare nature on the day, finding praise too for Tony Fawcett’s Whickham, who he credited with being unrelenting.
Whickham 0-1 Redcar Athletic
Our report as Adam Boyes sealed Redcar’s place in the Third Round Proper.
“First and foremost, I want to say that Whickham put an excellent performance in today.” He said. “They had us worried at times. Especially in the second half when we had tired legs.”
“Obviously, numbers are still short at the minute. We’re trying to get a couple of injured lads back.
“What I must say is that our lads dug deep. Some coming back from injury like Jack Blackford, who hasn’t kicked a ball in five weeks.
“I thought Danni Lay was outstanding at the back. He lead like a captain. The same goes to Adam Boyes up top. He ran his legs off.”
Used to praising his side for an attractive brand of football, today Jarrett opted for a different tact.
The boss offered his respect to his side for winning ugly, conceding that in tournament football, all that matters is getting through to the next round.
“We’ve come here today with a small squad and we’ve put in a battling performance.” He said.
“We don’t need to be pretty every single game, trying to play people off the park. We’ve come here and rolled our sleeves up.
“It doesn’t matter in tournament football if you win by one, two, three, four or five. It means all the same, and you get through to the next round.”
