The Redcar boss offered his thoughts on our final game of the year.

Redcar Athletic will go to Sam Smith’s Park to close out the year with almost a full squad this Saturday, much to the delight of Carl Jarrett.

The First Team boss confirmed all but Kevin Burgess will be available to take on Newcastle Benfield, a task he admitted would still prove tough for his side.

A year marred by injuries and suspensions, Jarrett was pleased to reveal his plentiful options for December’s finale, arguing it offered him the tools to make necessary changes.

Newcastle Benfield moved into the top ten on Boxing Day, victory over near rivals Newcastle Blue Star their fourth in just five games.

The Redcar boss rightfully argued the Lions would thus prove a strong adversary, but with an eighteen-man squad, he seemed quietly optimistic.

“We’re going to a difficult place that is (Newcastle) Benfield.” He said.

“We’ve got a good enough squad to be moving things around. I think this is the first time you’ll have heard me say that I have a full group, apart from Kevin Burgess.

“I’ve got an eighteen-man squad to pick from on Saturday. I’ve not had that all season. It just gives me the tools to change things around, and I’m happy about that.”

Whilst Benfield’s form puts them in good standing to close out the year, Redcar have trudged to the finish line in a more than uninspiring manner.

Jarrett reiterated that he would not make excuses for himself or his players, but did suggest with a few tweaks, the results would come again.

He said: “There’s no excuses. We don’t make excuses at this football club. We just have to be better in certain areas.

“We’ve been playing some good football at times. Sometimes, good football just doesn’t get you results.

“I know this league inside and out. There’s some things that we’ll maybe have to tinker with to try and get these results.”

FIXTURES AND RESULTS

Two days on from a hard-fought contest on Boxing Day, Carl Jarrett dismissed claims the quick turnaround would be problematic for his players.

“It is a tough place to go.” He reiterated.

“But the turnaround shouldn’t be a problem because of the personnel, and the quality we had on the bench on Boxing Day.

“Going into Saturday, I’ll have a good squad to pick from, and hopefully I can rotate a few things.”
