The Redcar boss offered his thoughts on our North Riding Senior Cup quarterfinal success.
Carl Jarrett praised Redcar’s endeavour in a second penalty shootout victory of the season against Boro Rangers.
The Steelmen progressed into the semifinals of the North Riding Senior Cup with five flawless spot kicks, as Josh Mazfari denied Owen Burns to seal the win.
Plagued by the same goalmouth woes of late, Bradley Fewster stepped up to sweep Redcar Athletic ahead with an hour on the clock.
Sloppy play in the second half offered Boro Rangers a foothold in the tie, and Harry Thompson curled home in the dying embers to force a shootout.
For Carl Jarrett, the result was a fair reflection of matters on the pitch, with both teams keen to dig in and put up a fight.
The boss argued Redcar were the better team for most of play, but conceded ground to an ‘excellent’ Boro Rangers, who of course made it count.

“I thought it was a good contest.” He said.
“Boro Rangers were good tonight. I thought they played some good football. I can’t knock them. They came back into the game.
“I think we played well first half. In the second, we were a little bit sloppy at times.
“If you look back at our goal, I think it was one of the best we’ve scored this season. The ball from (Nathan Guru) Gu, then turned over to Joe (Taylor) down the right hand side, and Brad (Fewster) has finished it off really well.
“It was a great team goal.
“We just had a sloppy five minutes and let them back into the game. These don’t stop, Boro Rangers, they just keep on going and keep on going.
“Fair play to them. We’ve made a couple of little errors, and Harry (Thompson) has finished it well in the bottom corner.“
The result closes an unbeaten record in January for Carl Jarrett’s Steelmen, with just the one goal conceded in almost 380 minutes of play.
Jarrett admitted he was delighted with his side’s performances, but of course questioned their prowess in front of goal since the turn of the year.
“We’re playing as a team, and we’re defending really well.” He said.

“We’re playing some pretty football, possession-based football. You know, keeping the ball and moving it around to try and open spaces up to create chances for our centre forwards.
“It’s just becoming a bit of a sticking point at the minute because we’re not getting the two, or the three, or the four, and finishing teams off.
“I’m not saying that we had loads of chances tonight, I just feel like we need to get that final third right in little places, that final pass, and if we do, someone down the line is going to get a walloping!”
