The midfielder offered his thoughts in advance of the Isuzu FA Vase Second Round.

Mark Anderson says Redcar Athletic want to return to winning ways in the Isuzu FA Vase this weekend.

The Steelmen have never before reached the Second Round of the competition, and travel to the First Mortgage Glebe to face Whickham just eight days on from a bitter home defeat.

One of the biggest games in the club’s relatively short history, Mark admitted Redcar were optimistic ahead of the journey, keen to stress that standards were as high as ever.

“The feeling is always good.” He said.

“We train hard and demand a lot out of each other in training. Standards are high at this club and they need to be in both games and training if you want to win things.

“The (Isuzu FA) Vase is no different. We see it as another chance to try and progress. It’s no secret, we want to win every game.”

Asked about the threat Whickham – who beat Spennymoor Town on Wednesday evening – would pose, Mark Anderson argued the Isuzu FA Vase had a part to play.

“Whickham’s approach might differ to the league game we played in a few weeks back.” He admitted.

“Cups are must win games. They have their strengths that we’ve spoken about, but it’s about what we do in games that will give us the best chance of winning.”

Of course, this tie marks a big test for Redcar Athletic, who for the first time are tested having lost on home soil.

A rebound is expected from a team with such a record, and for Mark, it’s almost a necessity.

He continued: “We don’t let a defeat get to us, the same as when we win.”

“We know we didn’t do enough against Easington, and credit to them. They deserved the win. That’s football. You will lose games.

“Getting back on track in this cup game is something we want to do.”
