Finally back at the Hollou after what feels like ages, despite it really being just over a week. Crazy what 14 goals and over 180 miles can do to you.
Our next opponents are Grimsby Borough, who are currently 6th in the league, suffering their first defeat of the season on Wednesday, where they lost 2-0 to Pontefract Collieries.
The Wilderness Boys had started the season well, picking up some solid results, including a 2-1 win against Consett, and a 2-2 draw against former league leaders Bradford PA.
With a game in hand, they sit equal on points with North Ferriby who are sat in 5th, just inside the playoff spots. They’re also 4 points clear of 7th place Pontefract, despite their defeat to them, with Borough also having a 7 goal advantage over them.
A bit of a personal fun fact as well now, but Grimsby’s Rio Molyneaux is a player I personally know, with both of us studying the same course at university. Small world or what…
Our opponent’s side is one filled with talent from around the region, with goalkeeper Seb Auton just joining the club on loan from Grimsby Town. Striker Dayle Southwell has also had an illustrious career, with stints at Wycombe, Guiseley, Halifax and Boston United.
As for us, well, where do I begin. We seem to be experiencing the complete antithesis of a goal drought, with the Steelmen scoring 14 goals this month, despite their only having been 10 days and 3 matches so far.
The question that is being asked by seemingly anyone right now isn’t “Are you going to win?” but rather “Are you going to score 4/5 goals again?”.
Our last 4 results being 4-1, 5-1, 5-0 and 4-1 is something that now goes beyond extraordinary, with multiple players now finding their way onto the Redcar scoresheet.
Adam Boyes and Bradley Fewster have now both broken the 10 goal landmark, with Dane Burlace, Curtis Round, and the already mentioned Fewster and Boyes all bagging at least 5 assists each.
Fletcher’s abscence against Newton Aycliffe was the midfielder’s first game out this season, meaning the “only” players to start all 15 games now are Mazfari, Burlace, Lay, Boyes, and Guru.
Fewster and Taylor have also made 15 appearances, but 3 and 6 of those came off the bench, respectively.
So, as a summary. We are scoring lots, Grimsby Borough look to be a decent side, and the FanZone is also open for tomorrow’s match!
That’s all from me, if you’re at the match then see you there, but if not then there will be live match updates on our X (Twitter) page.
Up the Steelmen!
