Seaham Red Star vs Redcar Athletic

Seaham Red Star 0-0 Redcar Athletic

Missed opportunities befell Redcar Athletic, as a Red Star side full of endeavour held on for a deserved point.

Defences were more than on top at a mild Alexandra Steakhouse Stadium, ninety minutes dominated by keen organisation and wasted chances.

As to a continuing injury crisis, Carl Jarrett named an unchanged side to face the notorious cup nemesis, one which perhaps tired as the contest wore on.

Certainly the better of the two in attack, Redcar opened the affair with perhaps the greatest opportunity of the night.

Curtis Round slipped the ball down the right flank to the feet of an unchallenged Adam Boyes, the forward scooping his effort over shot-stopper Andrew Jennison, but too the crossbar.

A confident Jack Blackford next tested the waters, driving inside from the same position on the right, opting to go alone to no avail.

Two dead ball situations proved void of luck for a trying Dale Hopson, both gathered by Andrew Jennison with rather little fuss.

The glove-man was first challenged by a plush header from Adam Boyes, the forward rising to meet Dale Hopson’s lofted delivery to little effect.

A vicious pullback from Curtis Round met the same fate, nodded over by Boyes in the centre, a feat repeated not so long after by Layton Watts.

Incisive play to the feet of Curtis Round forced Andrew Jennison’s hand once more, deflecting off the back of Adam Boyes to make for a rather tough stop.

The tenacious Brad Chisholm enjoyed Seaham’s first chance of the night, ghosting towards the front post to turn James Robinson’s in-swinging delivery well behind.

Chisholm again proved hungry as play resumed, unleashing a wayward strike on Callum Roberts’ goal, before teeing up Joseph Hailes to draw a rare save some minutes later.

Another looping pass from Dale Hopson opened Redcar’s account of missed opportunities as the second half came to pass, stuck under the feet of Adam Boyes, and rifled wide by Curtis Round.

Brad Mills next produced that killer final ball, breaking to the touchline to cut the play back, with no one in the centre to provide the finishing touch.

An attempt to recreate his stunning free kick against West Auckland went amiss for Dale Hopson, Jennison by far his equal with a routine stop.

The midfielder had one last chance to snatch the spoils on the night, turning Adam Boyes’ acrobatic cutback goalwards in the dying seconds, again, just too delicate to trouble Jennison.
