Recap
An unusually blunt Redcar Athletic were forced to settle for a point at Seaham Red Star’s Alexandra Steakhouse Stadium.
The hosts were the happier of the two to share the spoils, stifling the Steelmen for ninety minutes to leapfrog West Allotment Celtic to provisional safety.
Shildon’s point against Guisborough Town means the title race remains as it was, but Redcar will be concerned by injuries to both Bradley Fewster and Priestley Griffiths.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Redcar Athletic. Chances and possession came aplenty, but a goal just never looked to be on the cards.
Oscar Fletcher first worked the grasp of Shaun Newbrook, his almost looping volley routine for the Seaham shot-stopper, as was the low drive of Adam Boyes.
In his first start since October, Kevin Burgess rose to thump a headed effort wide of the mark. Bradley Fewster was soon teed up by Adam Boyes, but thwarted towards the crossbar.
A goalmouth scramble bore just about the same reward, before Mark Anderson saw out the half with a bending effort carried off course by a vicious gust of wind.
Bradley Fewster was forced to make way when the players emerged for the restart, replaced in the eleven by Olly Cann. Nathan Guru was moved to the left defensive flank.
Mark Anderson again came close with a bending effort, this time agonisingly wide of the far post. His pullback cross later skimmed the boot of Curtis Round, but couldn’t be turned home.
A series of unheralded penalty claims proved the best of Redcar’s remaining endeavours.
Oscar Fletcher and Adam Boyes both saw tentative appeals waved away, before Priestley Griffiths was brought down to a chorus of Seaham distaste, but forced to undergo treatment, and eventually make way.
Seaham defended to their last breath, and although their efforts were rewarded with a hard-fought point, Oliver Cresdee was given his marching orders for twice kicking the ball away.
Steelmen: Mazfari, Guru, Round, Gott, Burgess (Joe Taylor 72’), Lay, Anderson, Griffiths (Guy 72’), Boyes, Fletcher, Fewster (Cann 46’)
