Redcar Athletic vs Sunderland RCA

Redcar Athletic 7-2 Sunderland RCA

Steelmen: Isaac Walker (21’), Matty Tymon (40’, 61’), Liam Jarvie (45+1’), Adam Wheatley (47’), James Sayer (72’, 79’)

Ryhope: Jason Chanayire (7’), Jackson Ward (84’)

The home of entertaining football in the Northern League hosted another goalfest, as Redcar Athletic hit seven against Sunderland RCA.

A sensational solo goal from Isaac Walker sparked the rout, as the front three notched one apiece to overturn Jason Chanayire’s shock opener.

James Sayer entered play off the bench to run Ryhope ragged in the dying stages, netting a duly composed double to add to Adam Wheatley’s first goal in red and navy, and Matty Tymon’s first brace.

Injury and illness continued to dictate parts of Gary Forster’s squad, as Liam O’Sullivan and Layton Watts featured in the backline.

Despite an authoritative start, Sunderland found themselves stunning the Steelmen in the opening ten minutes, as Jason Chanayire capped off a blistering breakaway at the second time of asking.

Ashley Lavan almost capitalised on Redcar’s immediate disrepair, prompting a sprawling stop from Jack Norton to prevent a decisive second.

Isaac Walker was the man responsible for dashing Ryhope’s joy, dancing through a sea of yellow from the left flank, before curling into the far top corner with some finesse.

The forward looked to turn provider soon after, seeking out an unmarked Matty Tymon in the box, whose acrobatic volley could only rattle the advertising hoardings.

That very combination eventually proved fatal for RCA, as Tymon met a deep cross at the back post with a plush header, nodding Redcar into a deserved lead.

As the goals began falling, Liam Jarvie’s place on the scoresheet proved inevitable, and Tymon’s seeking ball needed but a simple touch to add number three on the stroke of the break.

Adam Wheatley ensured the interval had no bearing on Redcar’s momentum, opening his account for the club after just 80 seconds, as his vicious volley turned Fletcher’s deep corner into the roof of the net.

Isaac Walker had eyes for a second, as the Steelmen proved unrelenting, striking the upright with his driven effort across goal, before Jarvie’s follow up cannoned over the bar.

Tymon continued to impress from the front, feeding Walker’s next run at goal, which unfortunately caused the drum behind the net more trouble than shot-stopper Mathew Wilkinson.

The attacking duo traded places for number five, as Walker’s pinpoint ball across the face of goal gifted a simple finish for Matty Tymon, who finally sealed his deserved brace.

A remarkable double save from Jack Norton reminded the Steelmen that Sunderland weren’t to be underestimated, as a diving stop left Jamie Owens frustrated, and a outlandish reaction tipped the follow up away from danger.

The introduction of young James Sayer breathed a new lease of life into Redcar’s attack, with the forward’s defence dropping cutback opening up an angle for goal number six.

Sayer’s next drive into the box proved just as effective, as Fletcher slipped him in behind, and his patience and composure gave him the space to provide a neat finish to match.

The result highlighted the drastic improvement in Redcar’s fortunes since an anti-climactic start to the season, as even Jackson Ward’s late consolation couldn’t put a dampener on a vibrant Green Lane.
