Boyle at the double as Steelmen see off Seaham.
Danny Boyle fired Redcar to a nail-biting Friday night victory, edging out a resurgent Seaham Red Star under the lights at Green Lane.
The midfielder scored the first of the Steelmen’s quick fire response to an early setback, volleying his side level, before Alfie Conway completed the turnaround.
A deflection helped Boyle claim his brace in the second period, a goal which proved crucial in sealing all three points, as Seaham’s Adam Lennox converted a spot kick to set the scene for a tense ending.
The in-form visitors were gifted the perfect start to the contest, as Joe Hailes pounced on a loose back pass to round Jack Norton and steal his side a third minute lead.
Redcar wasted no time in throwing down their own card, drawing level a mere two minutes later through Danny Boyle, whose calm control and dipping volley defied Andrew Jennison to nestle just inside the top left corner.
Only quarter of an hour had passed when Athletic completed the comeback, Sonni Coleman turning provider with an inviting delivery, which was driven home at the second time of asking by a lurking Alfie Conway.
Anthony Bell had the chance to provide the Steelmen with a third some minutes later, set through on goal by a reverse pass from Coleman, only failing to trouble Jennison with his sliced effort.
The short goal drought of Craig Hutchinson dragged on, as the forward had two attempts to increase the advantage before the break, neither of which forcing a save from the travelling number one.
Redcar still had an edge as the second period got underway, with Anthony Bell the first to test Jennison with a fierce free kick, which the shot-stopper beat away at the expense of a corner.
A monstrous long throw from Joe Thompson inspired Athletic’s richly deserved third, as Boyle once again gathered a loose ball on the edge of the area, finding the roof of the net with his slightly deflected effort.
Seaham substitute Bailey Judson twice reminded the Steelmen they were still a threat, forcing a routine save out of Norton, before heading a golden opportunity over the bar a minute later.
A mistimed intervention from Thompson gave Seaham the opportunity to claw one back from the spot, to which Adam Lennox obliged, sending Norton the wrong way to make for an interesting final ten minutes.
Hearts were certainly in mouths as far as the home crowd were concerned, no more so than during a goalmouth scramble, which Jack Norton somehow managed to direct behind for a corner.
The indication of a further six minutes gave Redcar another unwanted scare, but after some cynical gamesmanship, Green Lane could finally breathe a sigh of relief, as the Steelmen clinched a valuable three points.
Attendance: 295.
Goal Scorers: Daniel Boyle (5, 66) Alfie Conway (15).
