Recap
Jordan Lashley drove a dagger through the heart of Redcar Athletics’s Wembley dream as North Shields left it late to move on in the Isuzu FA Vase.
Bradley Fewster had the Steelmen dreaming big when he glanced home the opener with an hour on the clock.
Dan Waldon restored parity some minutes after coming onto the field, before Jordan Lashley made his mark in stoppage time to condemn Redcar to a Third Round exit.
A grand occasion for both Northern League outfits, play was somewhat shared for the majority of the afternoon.
Jordan Lashley first tested the Redcar defence, forcing Oscar Fletcher to lunge at his low effort from deep. Lewis Suddick turned the rebound over the bar.
Attractive play down the left flank earned the Steelmen an early opportunity of their own, Bradley Fewster’s volley well dealt with by a sprawling Kyle Hayes.
Lewis Suddick brought a strong stop out of Josh Mazfari on a quick breakaway, Mark Anderson mere inches from connecting with Bradley Fewster’s lofted through ball at the other end.
Kyle Hayes continued to prove a difficult man to beat, diving at full extension to tip Curtis Round’s low drive behind for a corner, before clawing a delicate lob from Mark Anderson out of the far stanchion.
A short interlude saw the Robins emerge far the better side, Will McCamley first to provide for Lee Mason, who couldn’t beat Josh Mazfari at the back post.
Lewis Suddick found space and time no match for the Redcar shot-stopper, a little nick on his low effort enough to allow Joe Taylor to swoop in and clear the danger.
Mark Anderson sent to the sin bin for protesting a contentious decision, Athletic rode out a period of sustained pressure, breaking the deadlock against the run of play shortly after the hour.
Ben Harmison relieved possession to Adam Boyes, and the forward wasted no time in laying on for Bradley Fewster, who couldn’t miss from five yards.
Fewster had eyes for a second in the aftermath, lofting an effort over a forlorn Kyle Hayes, who managed enough of a touch to send his effort wide towards a waiting defender.
The first warning sign of a Robins resurgence came through Will McCamley. The midfielder struck the upright after fine work from Jordan Lashley to drive his side out of defence.
Dan Waldon came off the bench to first hurt the Steelmen with four minutes to play. His low effort nestled in the far corner, sending the travelling Tynesiders into delirium.
Another dose of such joy wasn’t far behind for the Robins either, as Jordan Lashley took aim from range deep into stoppage time, his effort a rocket into the far stanchion, and the final nail in the coffin of Redcar’s Wembley dream.
