Recap

Bradley Fewster starred in another fantastic four for Redcar Athletic, who moved seven points clear at the top of the table with victory over Whickham.

The forward looked back to his best in a blistering first half, beating the driving rain and the Lang Jacks’ defence with a rather diverse double.

Danni Lay towered at the back post to add a third on the cusp of the break, Mark Anderson on target from deep in the midfield to top his own stellar display.

A full eight days on from victory over Northallerton, Carl Jarrett made a lone change to his eleven – Mark Anderson restored to the midfield at the expense of an injured Jack Blackford.

Redcar made haste in taking the game to the Lang Jacks as the heavens opened, Callum Guy unlucky to blast behind, as Bradley Fewster’s ambitious effort from range snuck in at the far post.

The forward doubled the lead inside the opening quarter, first to react to Mark Anderson’s deflected effort, and adept with a delightful, dinked finish to match.

Callum Guy pulled the ball back into a dangerous area all but void of any red shirts, Whickham’s attempts to scramble it clear almost punished as Chay Liddle glanced wide.

Under some pressure, the Lang Jacks offered very little in attack, Cameron Brewis’s dipping effort the closest to troubling Josh Mazfari when it rattled the crossbar.

A thorn in Whickham’s backline all afternoon, Danni Lay first stirred up concern with a towering header wide of the mark.

The defender rose to meet Mark Anderson’s set piece delivery in a dress rehearsal for his rare goal, then climbing to beat Matty Wilkinson, despite the best efforts of Cameron Brewis.

Bradley Fewster looked to turn provider when play resumed under the promised sun, picking out Adam Boyes in the centre, who headed goalwards to no avail.

Matty Wilkinson made his first stop of the afternoon to deny Mark Anderson, a mazy run from Callum Guy contained to a feeble end as he himself turned wide.

Anderson again found space in the midfield, this time opting to find the far corner with his weak foot, an effort which Wilkinson now couldn’t prevent.

Callum Munro mirrored Brewis’s first half attempts to salvage something for the Tynesiders, his attempt to damage the woodwork the closest Whickham would come in a late push for a consolation.

His opposite Callum, Guy, proved the last to stake a claim on the scoresheet, arrowing an effort of his own down the throat of Matty Wilkinson, who reacted well to turn it to safety.
