Recap
Bradley Fewster continued his purple patch with another tidy brace, as Redcar Athletic mirrored Saturday’s scoreline in a statement demolition of West Auckland Town.
The former Whitby Town forward had the honour of breaking the deadlock from the spot, doubling his tally in spectacular fashion from Mark Anderson’s seeking long ball.
Oscar Fletcher opened his account for the season against his former side, Adam Boyes off the bench and on to the scoresheet to settle a second consecutive four-goal triumph in the dying embers.
In the absence of Carl Jarrett, Dave McTiernan took the helm for the evening, opting to name an unchanged eleven from Saturday’s emphatic win over Kendal Town.
In similar fashion, the opening exchanges proved somewhat cagey, Josh Mazfari on his toes to deny James Harrison from the left flank.
Redcar’s first opportunity fell the way of Brad Fewster, the forward set free by Jack Blackford, but curling his vicious effort off the outside of the far stanchion.
Oscar Fletcher met a brick wall when trying to squeeze an effort of his own through a sea of black and amber, Jack Blackford’s follow up attempt whisked high of Nick Liversedge’s goal.
A marauding James Risbrough carved out the chance for the Steelmen to take the upper hand, his cross palmed clear by the hand of a defender, and a penalty kick given by the referee.
Brad Fewster stepped up to the mark, making no mistake from the spot, sending Liversedge sprawling in the wrong direction.
The forward missed out on a brace as the half loomed, driving a low strike across goal, merely a hair’s width wide at the far post.
Minutes into the restart of play, Fewster would be much more fortunate, Mark Anderson spraying a long ball into the path of the forward, whose first time volley dipped beyond a forlorn Nick Liversedge to wild celebration.
The match was all but over as a contest seconds later, Oscar Fletcher on hand to turn home from Jack Blackford’s neat pullback, the wide man reacting to quickest to Brad Fewster’s rocket off the woodwork.
In a rare glimpse at goal, Adam Mitchell struck the wall from a dead ball, former Redcar man Anthony Bell enjoying the only shot on target for the visitors, too soft to trouble Josh Mazfari.
A successful evening for Curtis Round came to a head in the dying embers, the forward turning the defence inside out, before unleashing an effort wide of the mark.
His efforts proved closer still in stoppage time, pouncing on a defensive mistake, only to be denied by Liversedge, with Adam Boyes in the centre to deliver the simplest of finishes.
