Recap
It’s déjà vu for Redcar Athletic as goals from Dan Waldon and Jordan Lashley see North Shields to victory at the B&D Interiors Stadium.
Having failed to take advantage of the wind in the first period, three halftime changes from Carl Jarrett saw the introduction of goalscorer Bradley Fewster.
Dan Waldon reacted first to a loose ball to restore parity on the hour, before Jordan Lashley’s deflected effort again condemned the Steelmen to defeat on home soil.
Four days on from victory over Whickham, the boss made a lone change to his eleven. Joe Taylor replaced Priestley Griffiths in defence, whilst Curtis Round brought up a half century of Redcar appearances.
It was a quick start for the Steelmen in the bitter cold. Oscar Fletcher drove an effort over the bar from the edge of the area, before Joe Taylor’s weaving run met much the same fate.
Adam Boyes could only rise to direct Oscar Fletcher’s deep free kick behind, whilst Chay Liddle’s attempt from range clattered the advertising hoardings.
As Redcar’s pressure went uncapitalised, the Robins began to grow in confidence.
Josh Mazfari twice sprawled to deny Jordan Lashley, perhaps most notably clawing away the low drive of Adam Forster.
Joe Taylor delivered the Steelmen’s greatest opportunity of the first half, his low cross agonisingly close to being prodded home by a flying Jake Stott.
Alex Curran scrambled to prevent Curtis Round’s corner from dipping under the crossbar, the resulting scramble cleared to mark the end of the half, and Redcar’s use of the strong winds.
Carl Jarrett introduced Bradley Fewster, Jack Blackford and Mark Anderson into the fray when play resumed, and the impact was near instantaneous.
Curtis Round laid on for Adam Boyes, and as Mark Anderson was denied, Bradley Fewster followed in to prod home the opener.
A desperate block from Curtis Coppen soon thwarted Adam Boyes’ attempt for a crucial insurance goal, Mark Anderson’s driven effort deflected behind for a corner.
Nathan Guru met Curtis Round’s delivery with a towering header, his wayward effort sadly marking the end of Redcar’s dominance.
Dan Waldon again had Shields on level terms when a wicked bounce off the crossbar sat up nicely to be nodded home.
Lee Mason should have completed the turnaround when he took his run beyond Josh Mazfari, the woodwork this time acting in Redcar’s favour.
Unfortunately, one-way traffic led to the inevitable, and as is often the case, up popped Jordan Lashley to fire the Robins into the lead from range.
The Steelmen’s best efforts failed to see much in the way of a response to going behind, and as Adam Boyes was deemed to have fouled the last man on a blistering breakaway, a groundbreaking year on the Redcar seafront ended in a fifth consecutive defeat.
