Recap

Redcar Athletic’s long unbeaten home record was finally brought to an end by a well organised Easington Colliery.

Brad Hird drove the Colliers in front inside ten minutes, his opener soon cancelled out by an opportunistic finish from Callum Guy.

Easington soaked up empty pressure from the Steelmen in the second half, gifted the chance to snatch the spoils from the spot, from which Brad Hird gratefully obliged.

Quick to challenge, the Colliers offered very little space to Redcar Athletic from minute one through ninety.

James Fairley was the first to let fly, his effort far from troubling for Josh Mazfari, but a stark warning of worse to come.

A well driven strike from Brad Hird put the Colliers in front with not ten minutes on the clock, a well-timed through ball negating the Steelmen’s backline.

Mark Anderson forced a rather loose block with an ambitious effort from the edge of the area, a chance thus presented to Callum Guy with Keaton Marrs wrong footed, and a chance well dispatched.

Redcar moved the ball well in tight pockets, struggling instead to find that killer ball. A wayward effort from Bradley Fewster proved all to show for a half hour’s pressure.

Brad Hird continued his search for a brace as the half wore down, first prompting a loose stop from Josh Mazfari, before arrowing wide from a tight angle.

When play resumed, Redcar found possession easy to come by, again stifled by a well-organised backline.

Danni Lay rose to nod Mark Anderson’s corner onto the roof of the net, debutant Jake Stott quick into the action, but unable to beat Keaton Marrs with his low cross.

Mark Anderson had the better of the Steelmen’s second half chances. The midfielder twice came close from a dead ball situation, soon striking the woodwork with a deflected effort.

Having weathered the storm, Easington grew into the contest as the half wore on. Josh Mazfari was twice called to action as the clock ticked down, first to deny Craig Hennis from range, then Luke Pearn from the flank.

A spilt ball proved the shot-stopper’s downfall in the dying embers, his resulting lunge deemed to have befallen Brad Hird, who made no mistake from the resulting spot kick.

Redcar huffed in search of a late response as five minutes of stoppage time was awarded but produced very little of note against a solid Easington side.
