Recap
A treble from Jake Stott proved the difference as Redcar Athletic saw the better of a nine-goal thriller at the Calverts Stadium.
The forward dashed Northallerton’s North Riding Senior Cup dreams in a dramatic second half showing, netting a hat-trick on his first competitive start for the club.
Nathan Stephenson had given Northallerton the lead in the opening exchanges but further strikes from Jack Blackford and Bradley Fewster rendered the hosts’ efforts futile.
Competition number four for Redcar Athletic this season, Carl Jarrett named a new look side at The Calverts Stadium.
Young shot-stopper Ben Taylor donned the gloves as one of three full club debuts, Priestley Griffiths and hat-trick hero Jake Stott the remaining duo.
Stott was the first to create anything of note in the bitter cold in Northallerton, lofting a dead ball into a dangerous area, only for Oscar Fletcher to squander the opportunity.
Shot-stopper Callum Dobson avoided a comical opener when his clearance struck Bradley Fewster in the face, reacting well to pluck the ball away from goal.
An ambitious strike from Nathan Stephenson put the hosts ahead against the run of play. The midfielder let fly from the halfway line, catching Ben Taylor astray in the midfield.
Jack Blackford restored parity but minutes later, cutting inside from the flank to unleash a devastating, low drive at Dobson’s near post.
The shot-stopper was beaten again when a defence splitting ball found Bradley Fewster, time and space at his disposal as he picked his spot with ease.
Jake Stott opened his account for the club with the simplest finish of his career as play resumed. Joe Taylor’s cross bobbled up off Callum Dobson, and the forward made no mistake at the back post.
A wicked deflection helped Stott to a quick brace, Dobson twice on hand to deny Bradley Fewster, but unable to get a glove to the forward’s redirected strike.
Fewster soon grabbed his brace on the hour, latching onto a delicate through ball to drop Callum Dobson to ground with quick footwork, and roll the ball into an empty net.
A string of defensive errors gifted Northallerton a route back into the tie. A slip from Ben Taylor offered up an open goal to Tafari Nicholas, Scott Ryan at the back post to halve the deficit.
The introduction of Callum Guy breathed life back into Redcar Athletic, his through ball teeing Jake Stott up for his hat-trick, but with plenty of work left to be done.
Stott slotted the ball back across the face of goal, his effort nestled in the far bottom corner to put the Steelmen’s North Riding Senior Cup progression beyond doubt.
Dobson was forced to dive at full stretch to keep out Callum Guy in search of a seventh, whilst Ben Taylor saw the last of the action as he tipped Nathan Stephenson’s attempted consolation over the bar.
