Recap
Late heroics from Oscar Fletcher salvaged a point on a rather uninspiring derby day at the Kevin Edward KGV Stadium.
Marred by a lack of excitement through to the hour, James Frazer nodded home to give Guisborough Town a slender advantage.
Redcar huffed in search of an equaliser, earning just reward in the dying embers as Oscar Fletcher poked home.
The games coming thick and fast, Carl Jarrett was forced into a lone change from Tuesday night’s Dean Street thriller, Joe Taylor taking the place of an injured Kevin Burgess.
For a derby, this was a rather dull affair, neither shot-stopper tested until well beyond the half hour mark.
Joe Taylor shaped up to shoot on the edge of the area, soon surrounded by a sea of red and white, Bradley Fewster weaving his way towards an early opportunity, only to be penalised for a foul.
James Frazer leaped into the air to meet the only real chance ahead of the hour, his header cushioned into the grasp of an untroubled Josh Mazfari.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first, leaving the contest in dire need of a spark, and that came through Guisborough Town.
Former Redcar man Brad Mills took charge of a dead ball on the flank, his delivery nodded into the roof of the net by a flying James Frazer.
Much like against Shildon, conceding seemed to inject a little bit of much needed impetus into the Steelmen – James Risbrough finally calling Robert Dean into action with a stern drive from range.
Craig Gott entered play after an extended absence to bend a set piece of his own wide, Bradley Fewster a touch ambitious from within the midfield.
A delightful give-and-go gave Redcar the reward they so desperately craved, Oscar Fletcher quick on his feet to take the ball beyond Robert Dean, and find the open goal in his wake.
An hour of painfully dull football, the excitement seemed to build towards a dramatic four minutes of stoppage time.
Josh Mazfari had to be on his toes to turn Brad Mills’ low strike behind, Robert Dean soon in action at the other end with Adam Boyes bearing down on goal.
Steelmen: Mazfari, Cann, Risbrough, Liddle (Gott 76’), Guru, Lay, J.Taylor, Fletcher, Fewster (Thomson 90’), Boyes, Round
