Recap
Redcar Athletic signed off from the Northern League as worthy champions, raising the Division One trophy after a thrilling victory over Easington Colliery.
A first Redcar goal for Olly Cann opened the scoring inside five minutes, before Bradley Fewster added a second in clinical fashion.
Mark Anderson came off the bench to snatch a goal of his own, as Craig Gott rifled home a stunner from deep in the midfield. Fewster made it five from the penalty spot.
Carl Jarrett opted for two changes to the team which all but sealed the title last Saturday. Kevin Burgess returned to the eleven to take charge of the armband, whilst Olly Cann replaced a suspended Nathan Guru.
There was certainly no complacency from the champions in waiting. A stellar switch of play from Chay Liddle found Curtis Round, and a first minute strike from Oscar Fletcher was denied by Keaton Marrs.
Curtis Round was involved in most, if not all, of Redcar’s success, not least laying the ball across the face of goal for Olly Cann to prod home the opener.
Bradley Fewster coveted Redcar’s second, dragging the ball around the shot-stopper to take advantage of the open goal in his wake.
Easington had little of note in attack, but Josh Mazfari was called upon to deny Jay Roper on a lone breakaway. Thomas Hunter lashed the rebound over the bar.
At the other end, Keaton Marrs had his work cut out for him to keep the scoreline respectable.
The Colliers’ gloveman made a fantastic save to deny Adam Boyes before the break, repeating the feat with an outstretched leg when play resumed.
Mark Anderson stepped off the bench to snatch Redcar’s third of the afternoon. The midfielder was on the end of another Curtis Round pullback, from which he made no mistake from close range.
A trademark Craig Gott effort took the tally to four. The midfielder-turned-centre-back found the stanchion from deep in the midfield, with Keaton Marrs scrambling.
The last action of the ninety saw Bradley Fewster upended in the area. The forward dispatched the spot kick to the tune of the final whistle, and the start of rapturous celebrations.
Danni Lay and Craig Gott raised the Division One trophy in front of the travelling hordes, bedecked in fancy dress and varying shades of red and navy. The same colours which lined the glittering silverware now etched with one more name.
