Recap
A debut goal from Callum Guy helped Redcar Athletic to leapfrog Boro Rangers, ending the afternoon at the top of the Northern League.
Uncharacteristically a stranger to the scoresheet of late, Adam Boyes poked the Steelmen into an early lead, glancing home a brace midway through the second half.
The forward forged an effective partnership with new man Callum Guy, he himself capping his debut with a well-taken lob to see Redcar regain the mantle of league-leaders.
Faced with the most potent attack in the Northern League, Carl Jarrett made two changes to the eleven, restoring Oscar Fletcher at the expense of Bradley Fewster, and offering a debut to Callum Guy.
Redcar were quick on the throttle when play began, Mark Anderson rattling the woodwork with an ambitious effort from range barely ten seconds into the affair.
The fast start paid dividends some ten minutes later, Nathan Guru whisking a long ball into the path of Adam Boyes, and the forward back to his best with the neat finish to match.
Callum Guy caused Boro Rangers quite an extensive list of problems on his debut, fed by Adam Boyes twice inside two minutes, denied first by Danny Horner, and then the linesman’s flag.
A defensive mistake gifted Boyes another opportunity when play resumed for the second half, the forward’s effort blocked by James Dillon, with Oscar Fletcher unable to apply the follow-up.
Danny Horner was soon again worried by Adam Boyes, an effort dragged just too far past the far post, Mark Anderson calling him to work to claim what became a pretty straight forward attempt.
An intuitive set piece eventually forged the killer blow, Anderson’s delivery driven to the back post by Nathan Guru, and turned home uncontested by a lurking Adam Boyes.
The forward turned provider to see Callum Guy’s debut end on a high, their exciting partnership coming to fruition as the midfielder lifted home a headed pass in some style.
Relatively unchallenged into the dying embers, Redcar’s clean sheet came under late threat from none other than Danni Lay.
The central defender sliced a clearance into the air, above Josh Mazfari’s crossbar, turning the resulting corner onto his own woodwork in a moment to forget.
