The assistant manager spoke to Ash Stone following Wednesday’s victory.
Stand-in boss Dave McTiernan hailed an outstanding display as Redcar Athletic beat Guisborough Town in a thrilling Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round replay.
Adam Boyes took the plaudits for the lone goal on the night. He pounced on a loose ball after Oscar Fletcher was denied, netting his fifth goal in as many games since the start of the campaign.
The victory marks the first time the Steelmen have ever made it beyond the Preliminary Round, with a trip to Pickering Town to come on Saturday 30th August.
McTiernan admitted he was delighted to make history for the club, but did concede it was just another win for himself and the coaching team.
There was, however, high praise for Guisborough Town, who he said executed their game plan to good effect.
“I don’t think we made hard work of it.” He said of the narrow win. “I think it’s a credit to the game plan that Guisborough had over the two games.
“They looked at our strengths and weaknesses, so fair play to their coaching staff.
“It was a tough tie, but we deserved it over the two games in my opinion. We’ve been the better side.
“It’s nice for the club to get into the next round. As a management team, we want to win every game, and that’s exactly what this is to us. Another win. I’m delighted.”
Scoring goals isn’t all that wins you games, and Dave McTiernan was pleased with Redcar’s defensive efforts.
He offered a special mention to Josh Mazfari, whose late heroics earned him a fourth clean sheet in five games, and sealed Redcar passage to the Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round.
“I’ve just said to the lads in the changing rooms there, outstanding.” He said.
“We defended the box really well, especially at the end. Special mention for Josh Mazfari, he’s been outstanding over the two legs.
“He made a crucial save to keep us in that game.”
