The midfielder-turned-centre-back joins our town rivals due to family commitments.
Redcar Athletic can confirm Craig Gott has yesterday completed a move to our local rivals, Redcar Town.
The midfielder proved an instrumental part of our title-winning campaign, and departs the club due to family commitments with the best wishes of all involved.
Injured during a pre-season bout at Thornaby’s Teasdale Park, Craig made his long-awaited competitive debut for the club against Seaham Red Star in September.
It was following the turn of the year that the midfielder staked his claim as the first name on the team sheet, dropping back into a defensive role to command a near infallible backline, conceding only six goals.
Craig made 25 appearances for the club, netting on three memorable occasions. His last contribution came in the form of a ‘Goal of the Season’ contender on the final day.
He now leaves with the best wishes of all involved in Redcar Athletic to join our neighbours at the Mo Mowlam Memorial Stadium.
His efforts in our most successful season will never go unappreciated.
On his departure, Chairman Kevin Fryett said: “Craig arrived at the club with a massive reputation as a footballer.
“He leaves still with that reputation intact, but add to that the fact that he is an exceptional person. A true leader who inspires all around him.
“A cultured midfielder who when needed stepped into defence and led us on an unbelievable run to the title.
“Unfortunately, due to family reasons, Craig has decided not to continue, and he leaves behind him a big hole, but he will never be forgotten at Redcar Athletic.”
