The midfielder offered his thoughts on Redcar’s third league win of the season.
Chay Liddle hailed a quick turnaround from the Steelmen in a 6-2 victory over West Allotment Celtic, addressing a poor start to proceedings at a sunny East Palmersville.
Redcar trailed by two after a disastrous opening quarter of an hour, Damen Mullen and Alfie Livermore on the scoresheet through what the midfielder labelled ‘silly mistakes.’

Mark Anderson dispatched an exquisite free kick to see the Steelmen back into the match, a red card for Celtic’s Ben Gaffney then opening the floodgates.
Adam Boyes found the equaliser from the spot, trading blows with Curtis Round until Oscar Fletcher wrapped up the scoring with another four-goal cushion.

Proud of he and the team for completing the turnaround, Chay Liddle was keen to highlight a ‘winning mentality,’ but certainly not shy from calling out ‘silly mistakes.’
“I think there’s no denying that we started poor.” He said. “We just weren’t at the races whatsoever.”
“There was a couple of silly mistakes from all of us, we just weren’t on it. The tempo wasn’t there.

“But,” he continued, “you can’t knock the lads for turning it around sharpish. And another six goals.”
“Three wins out of three, that’s exactly what we want, and exactly what the manager and the coaches ask for in terms of a winning mentality.”
A shining light in midfield throughout the opening period of the season, Liddle argued his performance at East Palmersville was far from his greatest.
The 32-year-old described his play as ‘sluggish,’ highlighting his high standards amidst keen competition for places across the midfield.
“I wouldn’t say that tonight for me, personally.” He said. “I wasn’t happy with my overall performance tonight.”
“Especially in the first 20 minutes, I thought I was sluggish, but that’s just myself. I have high standards.

“In terms of the midfield, there’s plenty of quality in there, all fighting for three of four shirts.
“We’ve always got to be at the races to make sure that when we turn up on a Saturday, or on a Tuesday, that we’re in that team.
“I just want to perform, and keep going every week.”
