The Redcar boss shared his thoughts as the spoils are shared with Birtley Town.
Carl Jarrett blasted a poor performance from a Redcar Athletic far from their best, held at Green Lane for the first time in the Northern League since the turn of the season.
The Steelmen twice rallied to come from behind and salvage a point against Birtley Town, the boss wholly dissatisfied with the performance, more so than the result.
The first points dropped on home soil in eight attempts, Birtley Town came with a game plan, and stunned the Steelmen with an early goal from Benjamin Shodeinde.
Mark Anderson replied on the stroke of halftime with another goal of the season contender, his efforts all but made futile as Mathew Ward restored the Hoops’ lead.
A foul on Adam Boyes offered Bradley Fewster the chance to salvage a point from the spot, his composure unwavering to send Alfie Gordon the wrong way.
Twice battling from behind, some might argue a point to be a good result for Redcar Athletic. Carl Jarrett is not some.
The boss stressed that he and the team want to win each and every match, and even a draw feels like a defeat in such circumstances.
“Like I’ve said before, we don’t set our team up, as a management, to draw or lose games.” Jarrett said. “We set our team up to win.”
“Unfortunately tonight, the bottom dollar is that we lost every single duel, or one-on-one, all around the pitch, from start to finish.
“The quality of everything that we did, as in passing, as in decision making, as in finishing… I just didn’t think we looked like a team that wanted to go and sit at the top of the tree going into Saturday’s game.”
Upset to come away with just a point, Jarrett evidenced his frustration with what he labelled a ‘poor performance.’
The Redcar boss argued his players were far below their usual standards this evening, something of a concern given the importance of Saturday’s visit of Boro Rangers.
“We haven’t turned up.” He said.
“I’m not one to just praise my lads constantly, when they do well. I’m here to say when things are poor, and that was a poor performance by our standards as Redcar Athletic.
“I’m involved in that as well, because I’m the manager.
Even though it was a draw, and people might think it was a good point. It isn’t. It’s not a very good point in my eyes.
What it is, is a very poor performance from a Redcar Athletic team that I’d expect a lot better from.
“If we turn up like that on Saturday, we’ll get battered.”
