The boss admitted he was disappointed not to come away with three points.

Carl Jarrett admitted he was disappointed not to leave with three points on his eagerly-anticipated Boxing Day return to Mount Pleasant.

The Redcar boss cursed countless chances missed by the Steelmen in a goalless stalemate with Marske United, the club of which he was manager for ten years.

Redcar Athletic’s first goalless encounter of the season, chances were far from at a premium for a star frontline.

Both Adam Boyes and Bradley Fewster missed opportunities to poke the Steelmen in front, whilst Josh Mazfari had little to do at the other end.

Whilst not the return to Mount Pleasant Redcar boss Carl Jarrett would have wished for, he still had high praise for his former side, and his own.

“It was great to come back (to Mount Pleasant) today.” He said.

“Obviously, I had some great times here. I think I was at Marske for about ten years.

“I was looking forward to coming back and seeing some familiar faces, and I guess to compete against them. It was a little bit weird being in the other dugout.

“Obviously, through, my jobs here at Redcar. I’ve got to look at the way the game went for us today.

“I tried something different. We went to three at the back, to try and play out a little bit more. It just didn’t work in the first half. There wasn’t enough chances for us.

“We changed into more of a 4-3-3 in the second half, and to be fair, we’ve had about five or six chances. I don’t know how we didn’t score one.

“Fair play to Marske. They’ve battled all the way. They got bodies behind the ball and put in last ditch tackles all over the place.

“As time went on it went to sort of a fifty-fifty game. The way things have been going for us at the minute I half expected one of them to put one in at the end there.

“At the present minute we’re relying on other teams rather than ourselves. The lads are putting as much as they can into the games, but results just don’t seem to be coming for us.”

FIXTURES AND RESULTS

This afternoon‘s point leaves Redcar Athletic top of the table at the close of play, but only on goal difference.

Four points from a possible 15 has proved a poor return given the quality the squad possesses, and for Carl Jarrett, there was every chance for it to have been more.

“If you look at the game, I’m disappointed we haven’t won it.” He said.

“We created enough chances. I don’t think Josh has had a save to make at the other end. He did cause himself a few problems at the back in the first half.

“If you look at the changes we’ve had, the likes of ‘Bosh’s’ and the likes of Brad’s, you could just see it was one of those when nothing was going to go in for us.

“The goalkeeper has made an unbelievable save on a deflected effort that you wouldn’t expect anyone to save. He’s not even their first choice.

“As I say though, you go away from home, derby game, it’s always going to be tight.

“It gets us back on the track of gaining points. I will take a draw away at Marske.”
