The boss spoke to Club Media ahead of our Emirates FA Cup clash.
Redcar Athletic face North Ferriby in a curtain-raising Emirates FA Cup clash this Saturday, and First Team boss Carl Jarrett can’t wait for the ‘real stuff’ to begin.
The Villagers travel to the Hollou Sports Stadium in a hotly-anticipated Extra-Preliminary Round tie – the winners subject to a trip to Consett or Guisborough Town in two weeks time.
Redcar closed out preparations for Saturday’s season-opener with a six-goal draw at the Towbar Express Stadium.
A brace from Louis Johnson and a gift for Adam Boyes established a commanding lead at the break, as sloppiness soon offered Whitby a route back into the tie.
The boss admitted there was a lot to learn from what he labelled a disappointing result, stressing it was performances that mattered to him and his management team ahead of the season-opener on Saturday.
“The approach to this game is what we’ve been working up to all throughout pre-season.” The boss said. “Every game we’ve played has been leading up to what I think will win us this game.
“We’ve had a mixed bag of results. We’ve had good performances and bad ones.
“Obviously, the main concern for me is that results don’t matter. It’s performances that matter.
“I’m not bothered about drawing 3-3 at Whitby last Saturday, it’s the performance that concerns the management.”
Despite his concerns, Jarrett admitted he was looking forward to transitioning into competitive football.
He revealed the Steelmen have been in training twice this week, readying for months and months of hard work which all begins with the Emirates FA Cup.
“Pre-season is over. The real stuff starts this Saturday.” Jarrett said.
“We’ve got to be ready. We’ve had two training sessions this week. Worked on a lot of stuff, had a few little chats with some of the players.
“Now it’s just about getting the squad ready for a long season, which all starts this Saturday. I’m looking forward to it.”
