Midfielder set for lengthy recovery from ankle injury.

Redcar Athletic can confirm that Danny Boyle suffered a broken ankle during Monday’s Boxing Day clash with Boro Rangers.

The injury will see the midfielder sidelined for at least three months, with a scan in the pipeline to assess whether an operation could be necessary to further his recovery.

Boyle was aided off the field of play during the opening half hour at Phoenix Park on Boxing Day, where he was replaced by Joe Thompson in an early change of system.

Redcar boss Gary Forster lamented Boyle’s absence, admitting it leaves the midfield a little understaffed in the wake of Oscar Fletcher’s departure.

“Danny Boyle has been instrumental for us since I took over as manager.” He said.

“There are not many midfielders around like Danny anymore, and his miss will certainly hurt us.

“It is a big blow, but it is one we will deal with accordingly.”

The midfielder will join stalwart central defender Adam Wheatley in the treatment room, whose return from a broken foot will prove similarly extensive, whilst three further members of the squad continue to play despite harbouring knocks.
