The forward offered his post-match thoughts as Redcar beat the Lions 5-0.
Jack Blackford labelled Redcar Athletic’s five-goal thumping of Newcastle Benfield as a statement, willing his teammates to continue performing to such high standards as the season progresses.
The floodgates opened by Bradley Fewster, Redcar Athletic lead by four come the break, Nathan Guru and Mark Anderson both on target.
A rather more settled second period, Cam Thomson entered play from the bench to increase the margin in stoppage time, beating Andrew Grainger at his near post for a well-taken fifth.
Redcar Athletic 5-0 Newcastle Benfield
Our report as the Steelmen ease to victory over Newcastle Benfield.
A second five-goal winning margin in just four days, there was little to complain about for Jack Blackford.
The forward praised his teammates – including those who came off the bench – arguing the result came as some kind of a statement to the Steelmen’s competitors.
“Following on from the result the other day, we just wanted to kick on and get another good result really.” He said.
“It’s not about how many goals you get, but it’s always nice. It kind of puts a bit of a statement out there.
“The lads are chuffed. We just need to keep going, and to keep performing as a team.
“Lads are coming on and getting involved. Cam came on and he got his goal.
“It’s brilliant.”
Enjoying a series of starring performances in a new wing-back role, Jack admitted he felt confident in his ability.
The forward told Ash Stone he believed he had adjusted well to a different position, even going as far to suggest it was some of his finest performances in recent memory.
“I feel massively confident.” He said.
“I think I’m playing some of the best football I have for a long time. Just constantly being a threat.
“It’s a bit of a different position for me, but I think I’m taking it on quite well, and it’s working for the team. With Curtis on the other side, that’s two massive threats.
“I’m really enjoying it, and now we just need to keep going.”
