Redcar Athletic strike partnership with Land of Iron Museum

Skinningrove based museum becomes latest local business to partner with Redcar Athletic.

Land of Iron, formerly Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, opened to the public in January 2023 after undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment, made possible with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Located in Skinningrove, a short drive from Redcar, visitors can discover Britain’s Iron Valley and the people who powered it. Land of Iron tells the story of Cleveland’s rich ironstone mining heritage and how it kickstarted the huge industrial success of our region.

Land of Iron is the only museum in the world based at an original ironstone mine where visitors are guided on an exploration through the mine buildings, deep into the North Drift, and back in time. You can also learn about the site’s humble beginnings and see a wide range of artefacts in the brand-new interactive exhibition space.

Residents of Redcar & Cleveland can take advantage of a discount of 20% on admission to the museum and tickets can be reused for further visits for up to a year.

Marie Woods, Museum Manager at Land of Iron, said: “When Land of Iron reopened to the public in January 2023, we decided that we wanted the museum to be relevant, outward-looking, and a valuable community asset for local people.

“We have the same aspirations as Redcar Athletic in wanting to support our communities, and so we are delighted to be working in partnership with them.

“The football club’s aim of providing opportunities for young people in their academy is something that we both feel strongly about, as well as preserving the past, Land of Iron wants to provide learning and cultural opportunities for people across our community and be a link between our proud ironstone mining legacy and a prosperous Teesside in the future.”
