Quorn FC (A) – Match Preview

Another away trip, this time with the Steelmen heading south as we head to Quorn for a 3pm kick off

With Tuesday’s win, we now have a couple of new facts to go with it, including our first-ever Step 3 goalscorer, in Brad Fewster.

We also have a first Step 3 assister, in Oscar Fletcher, though I feel that is less ceremonial than the goalscorer.

At the other end, Josh Mazfari, on the eve of his 100th league appearance for the Steelmen, is yet to concede at this level, whilst Danny Rowe is one off his 20th Redcar Athletic match.

JJ is one away from his 40th, and Brad is two away from 100 as well, so by the Lancaster City match we may have several new milestones to celebrate

Talking to Dave Edler after the Workington win, a fact was mentioned, which is that we have seemed to score many late goals.

Now, depending on your definition of late determines the actual numbers vary, but for this case I am going to say 80th minute and later is a “late” goal.

With that in mind, we have scored 26 late goals, with 4 of them being goals that gave us a point or more.

There’s also the 2 we scored against North Ferriby on the last day of the season, which, well, they were both scored after the 80th minute, but Ferriby’s goal came in the 92nd, so…which one is the winner?

You can decide on that one.

The red card given to Workington in our fixture was the first one to be given to the opposition since the 1st of October 2025, when Joe Keny was sent off for Pontefract in our 5-1 home win.

Just to really push how long ago that was, that match was Rio May’s debut game.

Tuesday’s win has also meant that we have reached our highest ever Non-League ranking, sitting 137th in the table, and despite having only played two matches, we are already ahead of Workington, Whitby, and Bamber Bridge, as well as Bury and Emley

Onto Quorn, who were founded back in 1924 by attendees of a local chapel, with the side originally being called Quorn Methodists FC, a name that has stuck throughout history in the form of a nickname

In 2003, the side were the only one at their level to sell a player to an EFL team, when Luke Varney was sold to Crewe Alexandra for £50,000

That move then saw the Methodists receive a £500,00 windfall as Varney moved to Charlton for £2 million in May 2007.

During the COVID seasons, Quorn were at first in Step, though they achieved promotion in the 2022/23 season, with an injury-time goal bumping them up to 2nd place in the league.

They sat in Step 4 until the 2024-25 season, where they blitzed Corby Town to the title, ending the campaign on 103 points.

The 2025-26 season saw them narrowly miss out on the playoffs of the Southern League Premier Central, and this season saw them moved to the Northern Premier, with Rushall Olympic taking their place.

That move was met with a lot of frustration from the Quorn fans and management, with results this season already looking fairly grim, with a 2-1 loss to newly promoted Avro being worsened by a 5-0 defeat to Cleethorpes at home the following Tuesday.

After our match, they then travel to Warrington Rylands, before an away trip to Lancaster City, and they will be hoping to get at least one point on the board before the end of the month.

Hopefully for us, it is another 3 points for the Steelmen tomorrow, with our remaining matches this month all looking like tricky ones.
