27 goals in our last 5 games is a stat that still seems unbelievable, and we now prepare for a match against Newton Aycliffe where we look to add to that tally.
I have to start this preview off with a fact check. It has been floating around that we are currently the highest scoring team in the English pyramid, but as of right now, that isn’t true. Elburton Villa of step 6 currently have 46 goals, whilst we have 38. That does mean, though, that we are the 2nd highest scoring team in the country.
9 points from our 4 away matches this season (Thanks Bishop Auckland.) means we are in great form both at, and away from home.
Our opponents, meanwhile, have picked up just 1 point in their last 4 home fixtures, including a 2-0 defeat to our opponents coming up on Saturday, Grimsby Borough.
As of right now, we are two points off top with 2 games in hand, meaning we could go 4 points clear at the top of the league.
As for our opposition, they are a single goal clear of the relegation spots, level on points with Blyth Spartans in 19th.
Bishop Auckland are also just a point behind the pair, with a game in hand, meaning both the Cliffe, and Blyth Spartans could wind up in the drop zone.
Last season, Newton Aycliffe finished 2 points off the play-offs, and they were 5 points off the season before, which was their first season at this level.
The Cliffe are currently managed by former Sunderland and Darlington midfielder Brian Atkinson, with the side aiming to steer away from the drop, and potentially climb up the table.
However, we seem to truly be in great form, with Adam Boyes still firmly fixed to the top of the goalscorers table, and Bradley Fewster now appearing in 2nd place thanks to his 4 goals in our last two matches!
The Steelmen seem to be in goalscoring paradise right now, and with our first clean sheet since the 20th of August, we may also have a defensive unit at the back as well now.
Sky is the limit for us, and the only way is up.
