The First Team coach offered his thoughts on a ‘complete performance’.
Redcar Athletic followed up on Saturday’s derby success with a ‘comfortable win’ at Whitley Bay’s Hillheads Park, much to the delight of Lee Bullock.
The First Team coach offered a glowing assessment of the Steelmen’s second successive victory, secured in part by a lone first half strike from Oscar Fletcher.
With such a narrow margin – which Lee Bullock himself admitted was dangerous – Redcar ‘controlled the game’ to a gratifying end.
Whitley Bay were offered very little of the ball in the closing stages, Redcar content to see out the game with the spoils in hand.
Pleased with both the discipline and maturity shown in his side’s ‘complete’ performance, Bullock said: “It was a comfortable win on the road, which backed up an excellent performance on Saturday.”
“We had Oscar getting in really good positions. We slipped balls in behind fullbacks on numerous occasions and we looked dangerous on set pieces.
“Everything clicked. The lads just moved the ball really well. The amount of times we had men on the overlap, or a third man.
“The lads came into the dressing room and one of the first things said was how well we saw the game out.
“We controlled the ball. It’s a dangerous scoreline, 1-0, away from home. We didn’t give them the opportunity to get back into it.
“We controlled the game from start to finish. Fair play to the lads. We’ve had a dip, but we’re getting back up to where we know we should be.”
Redcar’s results were far under par come the end of 2024, prompting plenty of questions from supporters and opposition alike.
Such criticism was well-founded according to Lee Bullock, who was pleased to see the Steelmen respond emphatically with victories over Guisborough Town, and now Whitley Bay.
“We’ve had a lot of questions asked about us in the last couple of weeks and months, and rightly so, because results haven’t been right.” He said.
“It’s been needed, the last couple of games. The lads have put in some outstanding performances.
“That was probably as comfortable as you see. The only thing we’re missing, and the lads know it, we should have been two or three up by half time.”
Finishing was the only qualm the First Team coach could conjure up to mar Redcar’s performance.
The Steelmen peppered Whitley Bay’s net with 17 shots across ninety minutes, netting only the once inside half an hour through Oscar Fletcher.
“Today, the finishing was off.” Bullock said.
“A lot was straight at the goalkeeper or high and wide. The build-up, however was outstanding.
“I’m sure the goals will follow. Someone will get walloped.”
