Goals from Mille Bell and Lauren Robson guided Boro Women to victory against York City.
Middlesbrough Women continued their unbeaten record on the hallowed turf of Green Lane yesterday evening, sweeping aside York City Ladies to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Millie Bell nodded home to give Boro a slender lead come the break, a Lauren Robson brace enough to secure all three points in a second win in as many games on the Redcar seafront.
Three goals to the good when the match was originally abandoned back in September, Boro Women picked up right where they left off at Green Lane.
Sharna Wilkinson drew a first gasp from the crowd as her stanchion-bound effort was tipped behind, Ellen Turnbull soon following suit with a rocket off the woodwork.
York City shot-stopper Sidwell worked tirelessly to keep the scores level, credited with four decisive saves before Millie Bell rose to break the deadlock from an in-swinging corner.
Back to the action after a short break, Lauren Robson added to Boro Women’s tally, gifted possession by a weak clearance, and adept to provide the finish.
The forward snatched her second of the evening not ten minutes later, this time on target from the edge of the box, as Micheal Mulhern’s side marked the end of a continuous barrage on Sidwell’s goal.
A second victory in three on the hallowed turf of Green Lane, Boro Women now move four points clear of Leeds United at the top of the table, still yet to lose in any competition this season.
