Recap

A hat-trick from Adam Boyes guided Redcar Athletic through to the Second Round of the Isuzu FA Vase for the first time in club history.

Pit against Second Division outfit Prudhoe Youth Club, an early goal from Lucca Taylor saw Redcar at a disadvantage.

Adam Boyes and Oscar Fletcher traded places as an unstoppable strike partnership, netting three and two respectively as the Steelmen sealed their place in Monday’s draw.

Without a number of key players due to both injury and cup restrictions, Carl Jarrett opted for a lone change to last Saturday’s team, introducing Jack Bennett at the expense of Callum Guy.

Expected to start on the front foot by the boss, Redcar trailed with but two minutes on the clock. Danni Lay conceded a cheap free kick in a dangerous position, and Lucca Taylor found himself in good standing to capitalise.

Spurred on by an early goal, Prudhoe defended valiantly as Adam Boyes and Bradley Fewster endeavoured to force the ball over the line.

The hosts kept up their resolve until a fortunate break freed Adam Boyes in his favoured position, and of course, the forward made no mistake in applying the finish.

Redcar proved the better side in the lead up to the half hour, Oscar Fletcher trying his luck from deep in the midfield, but falling short of beating Sam Wilson in between the sticks.

His fortunes changed some minutes later. Whether it was intended as a cross, or simply an overly ambitious attempt at goal, Fletcher wheeled away in celebration as the Steelmen took a narrow lead into the half.

Under some pressure from a perhaps scalded Prudhoe as play resumed, Oscar Fletcher teed up Adam Boyes on a quick break to put the game all but beyond doubt.

The forward raced through on goal again just short of the hour, a hat-trick in his sights, and nothing adept to turn him away as he lifted the ball beyond the reach of Sam Wilson.

Ryan Ndiweni replied in some spectacular fashion to reduce the deficit, finding the far stanchion with some finesse, but perhaps too little too late to stage a comeback.

Prudhoe condemned to see out the tie with ten men through a late sin-bin, Oscar Fletcher added a second of his own, taking aim from the midfield once more, and with only one outcome.
