We need to be more ‘non-league,’ Bullock says

The First Team coach talks moving on from defeat as the Steelmen face Penrith.

Lee Bullock says the Steelmen need to be more ‘non-league’ in their approach, as a home clash with Penrith offers a chance to respond to midweek disappointment.

It’s no secret, Redcar Athletic’s form has dipped of late, a string of poor performances culminating in a bitter defeat to North Shields on Wednesday evening.

In the aftermath, First Team coach Lee Bullock added some much needed perspective, since giving his take on the future, starting this Saturday against Penrith.

“We know – touch wood – our home form has been good.” Bullock said. “We’ve managed to turn our ground into a fortress.”

“Other teams are not enjoying coming here, and we’ve got to see that continue.

“We tried to say before Wednesday’s game, we’ll get back to what we know we can do. Front foot football.

“We maybe need to speed things up a bit, to cut a few passes out, to be a bit stronger, and to be more ‘non-league.’ Then, when we get control of the game, we can play our football.

“At the minute, in our last couple, we haven’t had control of the game. It’s been 50-50, and on Wednesday night, anything but.

“Whatever level you’re at, if you’re not at it, you get beat.”
