Whitley Bay under wraps ahead of their fourth visit to Green Lane.
This evening, Redcar Athletic’s Northern League campaign continues against an under-performing Whitley Bay, the Northumberland outfit seeking a critical result to right the course of their season.

WHO ARE YA?
Whitley Bay
The Northern League is a competition steeped in history, and home to many a famous side. Whitley Bay are no exception.
Formed in 1950 as Whitley Bay Athletic, early successes in the Northern Football Alliance and Northumberland Senior Cup would be paled into insignificance in the club’s later years.
The Bay rose to prominence in the FA Amateur Cup, claiming a reputation as a top non-league side with consistent quarter-final appearances.

In 2002, the club claimed their first in a series of national successes, clinching the coveted FA Vase with a slender victory against Tiptree United at Villa Park.
The Bay soon continued their affinity with the prestigious competition, claiming a hat-trick of titles in 2011 with a 3-2 victory over Coalville Town, having thrashed Wroxham and swept aside Glossop North End in the two years prior.
CURRENT FORM

Victory at Beverly Town in the Emirates FA Cup, the Bay have struggled somewhat since a return to league action.
The Northumberland outfit drew a blank against Northallerton Town – who fared much the same – beaten without reply on Saturday by Seaham Red Star.

In contrast, four wins from four in the Northern League has Redcar comfortably in top spot, a win tonight staving off the closest competition of Boro Rangers.

FUN FACT
DID YOU KNOW: Whitley Bay’s famous FA Vase three-peat is the first of any side since Billericay Town in the competition’s founding years. Town won their third successive title in 1977, beating Sheffield 1-0.
