The Redcar boss spoke to Head of Media Ash Stone ahead of Saturday’s game.
Carl Jarrett labelled Northern League debutants Kendal Town as ‘the unknown,’ admitting the Cumbrians made for the toughest of opponents on opening day.
The boss praised the ‘Mintcakes’ for a sturdy start in pre-season, chalking the bout up to a difficult, but entertaining affair.
Speaking to Ash Stone ahead of this Saturday’s Northern League curtain-raiser at Green Lane, Carl Jarrett spelled out high praise for Kendal Town, confessing his side would need to be at their best to usher in the season on a high.
A number of key figures due to miss the inaugural afternoon, Carl expressed his delight to be done with the monotony of pre-season, doubling up as excitement for the new campaign to truly begin.
“It’s been a difficult pre-season.” The boss said.
“Obviously, we’ve had a lot of injuries, and a lot of lads missing. It is most likely the same for others, but it’s frustrating.
“I’m just glad to get this first game up and rolling, and get our season going.”
There’s no two ways about it, Kendal Town are a stern, resilient side, and certainly a ‘difficult’ opponent to face on opening day.
Ability aside, Carl explained the ‘Mintcakes’ would be a tough nut to crack as ‘the unknown,’ a trip to Green Lane their very first test in the division following a lateral movement from the North West.
“In my eyes, this is going to be a very difficult first game of the season against Kendal.” He said.
“At the present minute, they’re the unknown, no one really knows that much about them.
“They’ve had a great pre-season themselves, so we’re expecting a very, very tough game against a good team.”
“We’re going to have to be at our best just to try and get something out of the game.” Carl continued.
”Hopefully, we can come away with the three points.
“We’ve had a big week of training, Tuesday and Thursday, and now it’s all about getting bodies ready for Saturday.
“It would he brilliant to get a massive support at Green Lane for the lads.”
