Recap

Mark Anderson’s double made it a century of goals in the Northern League for Redcar Athletic, who professionally dispatched Penrith at The Frenchfield Stadium.

The midfielder notched his brace to mark an impressive first half showing, but opportunities went amiss as Redcar coasted to the finish line.

Penrith produced little of note to get back on level terms, and Josh Mazfari claimed his twenty-fourth clean sheet of the season.

One of the longer journeys the Northern League has to offer, the Steelmen were backed by a sizeable contingent from across the Pennines.

The sea of red acted as almost a twelfth man for Redcar Athletic, who in turn started the contest with the wind in their sails.

Mark Anderson had a go from deep in the midfield, his warning strike inches wide of the far post, which Bradley Fewster struck with an effort of his own moments later.

Danni Lay enjoyed a stellar afternoon at the back, almost sealing his captain’s performance with a thumping header, one he placed just too high of the mark.

Delightful work from Bradley Fewster eventually forged the opening. Curtis Round turned the ball across the face of goal, and Mark Anderson arrived to prod home Redcar’s one-hundredth goal of the season.

Despite Redcar’s dominance, Penrith were far from short of possession in the first half. The Bonny Blues worked hard in the midfield but failed to create the appropriate chances to match.

James Bell glanced wide in their one notable effort this side of halfway.

Anderson took his tally to fourteen for the season on the stroke of half time. A looping pass from Fewster gifted him space and time, and his exquisite finish proved its equal.

Matters were far quieter come the restart of play, with only a handful of chances to report from either side of the halfway line.

Oscar Fletcher rose to strike to woodwork for the third time of the afternoon, his next effort testing Aaron Taylor at the expense of a corner.

The midfielder pulled the ball out of the air in one last attempt to add to his own account, cruelly dispossessed as he looked to pull the trigger.

Chay Liddle clipped the crossbar again with an attempt from range, before Josh Mazfari made an astounding stop to tip James Bell’s speculative effort over the bar.
