Recap

Redcar Athletic moved five points clear at the top of the table after a scintillating five-goal battering of Carlisle City.

Lead by a treble from Adam Boyes, further strikes from Callum Guy and Bradley Fewster made for a blistering start inside the half hour.

Under pressure from a busy calendar, the Steelmen controlled the second period to a reserved end, increasing the gap to Boro Rangers to an appealing five points.

Cursed with one of the longest journeys of the season on a Tuesday night, Redcar Athletic were without Chay Liddle and Kevin Burgess, Joe Taylor and Bradley Fewster thus called up to the eleven.

Much like in Saturday’s highly-anticipated clash with Boro Rangers, the Steelmen made quick work of their Cumbrian counterparts.

A defensive mistake gifted Adam Boyes an early opening, the forward himself denied, but Callum Guy on hand to nod home the rebound.

The former Newcastle Benfield man turned provider on the next attack, whisking the ball into the path of Adam Boyes, whose headed effort left little chance for Scott Paden-Gale.

Redcar’s silky football continued as Danni Lay freed Jack Blackford out wide, the forward’s mazy run into the box calmly dispatched by Bradley Fewster.

It was soon Fewster’s turn to create, his headed knockdown perfectly timed for Adam Boyes, who of course made no mistake with a well-placed finish.

Paden-Gale finally got his feet to an effort from Bradley Fewster on the half hour, his improvised flick denied on the line, whilst Adam Boyes’ latest attempt for a treble proved rather overhit.

A brace of his own alluded Fewster as the Steelmen continued to lay siege, his strike from the edge of the area deceptively wide of the target.

Adam Boyes completed his treble on the stroke of halftime, Oscar Fletcher this time the architect, his defence splitting pass finished with little fuss to take the result far beyond the reeling Sky Blues.

The three points well and truly secured, Redcar showed little interest in continuing such offensive pressure into the latter stages.

Mark Anderson flashed an effort wide in an early flurry after play resumed, Blackford and Boyes both denied by Paden-Gale in advance of the hour.

A number of key figures withdrawn, the Steelmen opted to see the game out with a minimum of fuss, possession now the name of the game, and executed down to a tee.

Carlisle mustered a late push for a consolation, possibly spurred on by Redcar’s withdrawal, Joe Taylor once called upon to clear his lines, as the defence otherwise stood strong.
