Match Report

The first real chance of the game fell to Redcar Athletic in the 11th minute when a high cross into Easington Colliery area from the left wing by Lee Farrington was met with a header by Sam Webster but the popular winger couldn't get over the ball to direct it into the net, to score Redcar Athletic's 1st Northern League goal and it sailed over the bar. Nobody in the crowd could believe the 5 minute spell between the 16th and 21st minute in which the blazing sun seemed to vaporise the Redcar Athletic defence as Easington Colliery netted 3 times and all from possibly the smallest centre forward you're likely to see. On 16 minutes Liam Cooke launched a ball high into Redcar Athletic's penalty area which a backtracking Mitchell Morris, looking into the sun, misjudged and it deflected off him straight to the feet of LIAM ADAMSON who planted his shot into the net. A minute later after Redcar Athletic lost possession in the Easington half, Liam Cooke fired the ball down the left wing for Kyle Middleton and he easily side stepped a couple of tame challenges to race into penalty before playing it across the 6 yard box for LIAM ADAMSON to have a simple tap-in to make it 2-0. On 21 minutes Liam Cooke robbed Jordan Rivis of the ball in the centre circle then fed it through to LIAM ADAMSON who was allowed to make his way to the right hand edge of the penalty area virtually unchallenged, before firing a low hard drive into the net for his hat trick. Redcar Athletic managed to Easington Colliery at bay for the next 10 minutes before finally bursting back into life when Gary Redman robbed Ethan Wood of the ball 30 yards out before then firing in a low shot from the edge of the area past keeper Kyle Donaldson, only to see it rebound off the inside of the left hand post back towards the keeper who pounced on it. In the 35th minute Michael Woodhouse's pass found Gary Wood in space 30 yards out from goal and he fired in a rising shot which was arrowing it's way to the top left hand corner of the net until it plucked right out of the air with a flying save by kasington Colliery keeper Kyle Donaldson. On 42 minutes Redcar Athletic came close again to scoring when Gary Redman burst down the right before drilling the ball low across the penalty area and although Sam Calvert got his outstretched boot to it, he could put his effort past the left hand post. Just when it looked like Easington Colliery were going to go into break 3 goals ahead Redcar Athletic finally reduced the deficit to 2 goals a minute into injury time. Michael Woodhouse firstly lost the ball to David Vincent before chasing after him and winning it back then threadedit through to SAM CALVERT on the edge of the Easington penalty area, who shrugged off a couple of challenges before firing a hard shot over keeper Kyle Donaldson into the net for Redcar Athletic's first ever goal in the Northern League.

                        H-T  Easington Colliery 3 v 1 Redcar Athletic

The Redcar Athletic defence were caught napping in the 2nd minute of the 2nd half and Kyle Middleton was allowed space on the right  to sweep the ball low across the box for the incoming Lewis Green who looked nailed on to score but keeper Dan Simpkin came out quick to narrow the angle, then block his low shot. After about 5 minutes into the half Easington Colliery started to defend more deeply and Redcar Athletic started to turn the screw to try to reduce the deficit further. But despite the majority of the pressure Redcar Athletic could only create half chances until 15 minutes from time when Gary Wood robbed centre half Daniel Martin of the ball and went clear with only the keeper to beat. But instead of finding the net to make it 3-2, the recent signing from Northern League Division 1 Champions Marske United, rashly fired his shot a yard wide of the left hand post. Just 2 minutes after that opportunity Gary Readman, was found with a great pass from substitute Adam Preston on the right wing and he in turn fired a cross into the area although Sam Calvert got his head to it, the ball flashed over the crossbar. Then came 2 more sucker punches for Redcar Athletic  as with 10 minutes remaining miscommunication between Joe Bennett and Mitchell Morris gavepossession to the ball to Easington Colliery's Lewis Green who dinked it in to AARON FOREST to his right, who was allowed space to run before firing his shot into the right hand corner of the net. Redcar Athletic's defence went Missing In Action just 90 seconds later when Easington Colliery skipper was allowed to skate through before feeding it to the left into the penalty area for THOMAS GOUNDRY to finish clinically giving keeper Dan Simpkin no chance with it, to make it 5-1.
