Match Report

The opening 25 minutes was littered with errors from both sides with possession of the ball being given away at will. Crosses were being overhit, generally sailing over their intended target or simply going out of play before getting anywhere near their target. It was Redcar Athletic who were the biggest culprit and the longer the half went the worse their play got to a point where they were barely able to string 2 passes in row together between players. The first chance of the half came on 27 minutes when Redcar Athletic were awarded a free kick 25 yards out from goal, but Adam Preston fired his low shot wide of the right hand post. Harton and Westoe's first effort came right on the half hour mark when Andrew Hill's cross from the right into the Redcar Athletic penalty area was not cut out when the opportunity arose and it was allowed to reach Grant Pressling on the left hand side 12 yards out. Luckily for Redcar Athletic, Grant Pressling's fierce 1st time rising drive crashed off the angle of the right hand post and crossbar before then finally being cleared. Redcar Athletic's defence who were given a wake up call by that attack hit the snooze button and were caught dozing 2 minutes later. A cross into Redcar Athletic's penalty area saw the defence failed to clear it properly and Jordan Fenwick was given time to fire in a low shot from the edge of the area which forced keeper Will Lawrence down to his parry the ball before it was then booted out of the area. The danger wasn't over because as the defence raced out enmasse, the ball was booted straight back by Harton and Westoe and with Redcar Athletic appealing for offside AARON COULSON ran clear and free into the area, sidestepped keeper Will Lawrence to the right before slotting home to put the visitors ahead. Redcar Athletic who had not managed a shot on target in the 1st half were given an opportunity to do so in the 41st minute when Adam Preston was floored centrally 25 yards out from goal. But once again from the free kick Adam Preston fired his shot low and hard a couple of feet wide of the right hand post. Right on 45 minutes despite the sunny weather finally making an appearance, Redcar Athletic's day got bleaker. Grant Pressling was allowed total freedom to run unchallenged for 30 yards before firing a low vicious 20 yard drive which keeper Will Lawrence could only parry and AARON COULSON was quickest to react to fire the loose ball into the net.

               H-T  Redcar Athletic 0 v 2 Harton and Westoe

Redcar Athletic needed a quick response in the 2nd half and they got one goal back within 30 seconds when Chris Bivens curled pass from the right found ADAM PRESTON on the left 30 yards out, who then with a burst of speed broke into the penalty area before firing low passed oncoming keeper Kevin Garrick into  the back of the net. The bit was now between Redcar Athletic's teeth and they came close to equalising in the 54th minute when from Chris Bivens cross from the right wing, Stuart Browne's header crashed off the top of the crossbar. Despite being encamped in Harton and Westoe's half for almost next half hour Redcar Athletic simply break through until in the 82nd minute from Chris Bivens corner kick into the area dropped in front of Stuart Browne and as he slid in to toe the ball at goal, keeper Kevin Garrick coming forward to block and they collided. The referee blew straight away awarding a penalty to Redcar Athletic which surprised both sets of players and most certainly the home crowd who had no idea as to why a penalty had been awarded. Despite Harton and Westoe's protests which saw keeper Kevin Garrick and defender Kieron Laverick shown yellow cards, the referee was sticking to his decision. ADAM PRESTON took responsibilty for the penalty kick and made no mistake firing it to keeper Kevin Garrick's right as he dived to his left. With 3 minutes remaining Redcar Athletic's defence fell asleep yet again when a simple cross from the left wing was allowed to reach Aaron Coulson virtually on the penalty spot but he blasted his shot off the angle of the right hand post and crossbar instead of netting his hat-trick goal. Although Redcar Athletic were fortunate to draw level with a highly dubious penalty award, they were denied another penalty right on 90 minutes when substitute Jordan Rivis fired a fierce drive from inside the "D" of the area only to see cleared away by the hands of defender Kieron Laverick. This time it was the Redcar Athletic's players protests which where ignored, despite the offence being more clear cut than for the penalty which was awarded.  The referee had originally awarded 5 minutes of injury time but there was obvious time wasting from Harton and Westoe, which meant another minute was added and it was to make all the difference. In the 5th minute of injury time Stuart Browne fired a free kick forward from just inside Redcar Athletic's own half  and it was headed on down by Anthony Jones into the path of Jordan Rivis, who looked all set to score as he fired his shot towards goal, only for keeper Kevin Garrick to somehow get his hands to the ball to deflect it just over the bar. Everybody thought that was Redcar Athletic's last chance to win the game but that extra minute was to bring sheer joy and ecsatsy to Redcar Athletic as they fired the ball forward one last time, which was headed up and on by Anthony Jones straight towards STUART BROWNE, who's simple back header looped over Harton and Westoe's keeper Kevin Garrick before landing in the bottom right hand corner of the net. Harton and Westoe only had the time to kick off before the referee blew for full time, which meant Redcar Athletic managed to gain what could turn out to be an important 3 points. However Redcar Athletic must learn quickly from what was a shocking 1st half performance.
