Match Report

Redcar Athletic came close to taking the lead on 5 minutes when Adam Preston fed in Michael Woodhouse, but the crossbar came to Windscale's rescue. On the quarter of the hour mark Windscale's Lewis Jolly's shot from just outside the left hand side of the penalty area forced Redcar Athletic keeper Dan Simpkin to palm the ball into the air and when it dropped he then pulled off a point blank save to prevent Matthew Metcalf putting the Cumbrians ahead. Redcar Athletic had around 80% possession of the ball but were not creating many goalscoring opportunities. In the 27th minute Sam Webster curled a high corner kick from the right into Windscale's penalty area and it was met with diving header from Stuart Browne, but the ball flew just over the bar. Finally on 36 minutes the deadlock was broken when JORDAN RIVIS won the ball in a challenge 30 yards out, played a 1-2 with Michael Woodhouse to break into the penalty area, then sidestepped keeper James Dolan before slotting home.

           H-T  Redcar Athletic 1 v 0 Windscale FC

The 2nd half was very much like the 1st with Redcar Athletic having around 80% possession with Windscale more or less having all 11 players behind the ball and seemingly happy simply not to concede many more goals, rather than look for an equaliser.  Redcar Athletic really should have doubled their lead in the 51st minute when Michael Woodhouse's neat flick ball put Adam Preston through 1 on 1 with the keeper but he fired his shot straight into the body of James Dolan. On 54 minutes Sam Webster's 25 yard free kick was on target but Windscale keeper James Dolan did excellent to get down to grab hold tight of the ball. Finally on 73 minutes all the pressure told when Adam Preston's flick put BRYAN STEWART through the middle and he took his time to calmly dribble round the keeper Dolan plus 2 covering defenders before smacking the ball into the net. Windscale finally had an effort on goal with 10 minutes remaining when Lewis Jolly's 25 yard free kick forced keeper Dan Simpkin to dive to his left to parry the effort away. But a minute later it almost 3-0 when Anthony Jones headed forward onto Sam Webster put him on a run down the right and his squared the ball into the penalty area was met with a well placed low shot by Adam Preston, which looked set to nestle inside the left hand post until Dean Fox slid in to hook it away from right on the goal-line.

After suffering a 7-0 home defeat by a classy Boro U23's side, to come away with a win and a clean sheet certainly helps to quickly restore any confidence that may have affected the players.
